Reliability of QF 8

I use QF8 quite often for my BNE-SYD flights. The down side to things is going thru the immigration point in Sydney as a domestic passenger which can sometimes take almost as long as the flight itself. The upside is that even as a domestic journey you get the limo service if travelling in J.

Last trip was as a JASA so didn't cost me anything but points and a free ride from home to the airport and then from Syd airport to the CBD.

Check the QF website and the flight status for the DFW departure of QF8 around 2.00pm (local time) the day before and you can tell if the plane left on time it will generally arrive pretty close to the scheduled time

My understanding of the eligibility for the limo is that just travelling domestically on an international flight does not qualify unless connecting to eg QF1 to DXB or LHR or QF11/QF7/QF107 to LAX, DFW or JFK.

I'm sure I read on AFF that someone booked the limo online for QF8 BNE/SYD only but was called by them to say it wasn't an eligible booking.

I understand what you are saying beachbabe but I am living proof that it occurs. Start of this month when I went to SYD for the boat show. I never thought it should happen but about 4 weeks before the flight I checked "my bookings" on the QF website and lo-&-behold there it was. I was able to book the limo transfers to and from both airports, but alas, I wasnt able to pre-book my first meal on the trip LOL

I am starting to think that my receiving the Limo may have been a glitch in the system and may not occur for everyone. See what beachbabe has written above. Please dont rely that what happened to me. happens to everyone.

I've done QF8 three times in the past 2 months (paid J booking - DSC offer) as DOM leg. Never got the limo option:(

Doing QF8-QF11 in Dec and the limo service is on offer.

I miss QF8 down and QF19 back....what a way to travel:D

Yep, think I was just plain tinny and was nothing but a glitch in the system

There is a glitch in the system that sees some pax being given the limo option on sectors that don't qualify (e.g. BNE-SYD, SYD-SIN). It appears that sometimes QF picks this up - and has even cancelled the limo booking without telling the pax! So beware ....

Hi all,

Regarding QF 8, another question about this flight....
Website states that QF checkin opens at 5am, but then email said must check in at least 2 hours before the flight, so that would be at 440am.
Also, that lounge opens at 5 am, so I was planning on checking in about 445, and straight to lounge for a much needed coffee.

would love to know from anyone who has done this flight, as I obviously don't want be at the airport so early, only to be waiting at the check in desk.

thanks

TQ

Customs don't open till 5.30, take your time (and do OLCI).

Thanks markis10,

do you mean OLCI prior to arrival at airport, then auto bag drop? I thought you always had to present to a counter for international flights for passport check etc

TQ

Just do OLCI then to the counter at 5.15 or so, anything earlier is a waste of time.

Checkin opens at 0415 for QF8 but you don't *have* to checkin 2 hours before. A friend took QF8 last week & said she cleared the Customs area prior to 0500.

I wouldn't checkin any later than 60mins prior to departure but there's always going to be the last minute late runners have had to jump on the TBus & go over to the international terminal having gone to the domestic terminal by mistake.

If you do checkin online you'll still need to see checkin staff for an orange 'D' sticker which they affix to your boarding pass. Normally the CSA would do a reprint of the boarding pass as it's easier to tear off the stub on the cardboard ones at the boarding gate as opposed to tearing off the bottom of the A4 bit of paper if you OLCI from home.

Reprinting the boarding pass will also delate the 'check passports & visas' comment that happens when you do OLCI for an international flight so no hassles with getting the dreaded 'beep' at the boarding gate.
