I've just arrived in Perth WA from the UK. We are members of the BAEC program and used points to get us an upgrade on the way over.

Now with BA not operating in Aus we are looking into which FF program to join. The obvious choice is Emirates due to us going back to Scotland and N Ireland as it is the shortest route, but with the new fuel surcharges and harder to find redemptions I am thinking of looking elsewhere.

We would be looking to use credit cards as well as flying to gain miles/points that we would use for redemptions/upgrades for the flights home. Unfortunately both our current jobs do not have any flying involved.

Do you have any suggestions apart from Emirates?
