So a few weeks ago I finally hit WP. It took about a week, but my Velocity account finally lists "My Status: Platinum" in the side column.

The thing is, I never received a welcome email from Velocity, and I still haven't received my new card in the mail. I'm feeling a little unloved and was wondering if this was normal (no email and 3 week delay on new card) or if I'm just being impatient. I have some flights booked early next week and would love to have my shiny new card.

My review date was 23 Jan. My status finished "assessment" on 6 Feb and I was confirmed platinum for the coming year.

When I originally reached platinum a year ago I found it took a bit over a week for the "welcome to platinum" email after the account ticked over and another couple of weeks for the pack to arrive.

Domestically there's no benefit to the physical platinum card anyway. Just make sure you get someone to remove and then reapply your Velocity number to existing bookings so that your new status is picked up and printed on the boarding pass. Sabre might do this better but Navitaire always stuck with the status at the time of booking - helpful if you slip down a rung but not so good if you upgrade!

Similar here. Review date was Jan 24th. No email yet and no new card.

My assessment was on the 28th Jan, but the flights that pushed me over were on the 20th Jan.

I'm pretty sure they fixed this with the change to Sabre. I read somewhere that status is assigned at time of travel, not the time of booking anymore.

My flights pushing me over were on Jan 18th or 20th (or 21st - after chasing so many last flights this last month I now actually forget). I 'turned' Gold on the VA system today. I'm still officially only 490SCs as there are still a few that haven't credited. But the 'assessment' that the site says has been done must have been quick. I'd only seen notice of it this morning when I saw Gold in my account, and I was still Silver with no notice of assessment as at 1am this morning (I admit, I did one last check before bed ).

I did get an email from Virgin Silver apologising for the mix-ups and notifying that my status had been upgraded this morning though. I think that may be due to my circumstances (and constant humbugging) and I received no notification and found out (prior to that email) accidentally after logging in this morning.

My experience with everything post-Sabre *now* seems [relatively] lightning fast (including flight and non-flight credits) compared to the old system, but anything that happened during the transition phase +/- 3 or 4 days is basically lost in the vortex, and may take some time to retrieve.

I thought the cards took a few weeks anyway, but I would have thought a notification email could have been sent.

I finally got my shiny new WP card yesterday. Hope the rest of you aren't still waiting.

I rang Virgin today to see if I could get a new card 2 weeks early as we are travelling overseas when my year finishes on 30 March. They told me that new cards are issued two weeks after expiry to ensure that they catch up with all flight action. They will send me a letter to confirm that I've maintained my status, but no early card.
