I'll start off by saying I'm new, but this forum looks like a great place to be for answers!

The other day when I flew out, after I got my ID and boarding pass checked at the little table before lining up for the security check, the TSA agent said, you can put your ID and boarding pass away! I confirmed (as usually...we'd need a bp out?), and she said "nope, this airport is done with that".

cool! I like that.

But for all those people who handed their bp to the agent at the metal detector..and tsa sees SSSS on it, what happened to all that? Does that mean this system is finally going away? Mind you they can still check you for whatever else (profiling..etc etc), but I don't understand this?

Thanks!

I think in some airports if they see the SSSS at the ID check, you are sent down a certain line, or another TSA agent is called over to escort you through the checking required. So they know that you aren't SSSS material if you are in the general queue and don't need the ID/Boarding pass again.

The TSA can still select people who go through the metal detector who aren't SSSS for additional screening. This can occur if you beep twice (?) when going through the detector, you are "randomly selected" or the x-ray check shows up suspicious material.

BTW - Welcome.
