Hi all,

I am an agonising 111 points short of a reward night using IHG Rewards - wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to make up the tiny shortfall?

I know I can buy 1,000 points, but wondered if there is any other way to quickly grab such a small number....

Thanks!

E-rewards surveys are another easy option but not fast - you have to accrue enough paints to transfer across. But good long term to “bank” enough surveys so if you ever need to roll the points across You have the points sitting there.

That is a good tip but yeah, in need of them quickly. I couldn't find anything unfortunately so just paid up for the 1,000 points for about $17 AUD. They posted immediately so it was worth it.

Given I haven't stayed in an IHG property for....at least 4 years, I'm more than happy to just pay that amount and cut the cord entirely, burning the 12,000 points instead of paying the going cash rate for the room - which is $205 at the discounted member rate. So, an excellent deal as far as I am concerned.

Do you know someone that can transfer the points to you
I didn't, no. However a good option for others. Though worth noting, the fee is 5 USD per 1,000 points and has to be done via phone, so that would only have reflected a 7 USD saving over buying the extra outright in my case plus the time on the phone.

For others looking in the future someone can “Transfer” (gift) points online. No need to phone.

BTW, booking a restaurant on OpenTable via the IHG app used to be a quick way to earn free 150+ points but that seems to have gone the way of the Dodo ☹️

This link might still work?

Turned out to be moot as the lockdown in Victoria has me trapped...but thank you @SYD for the extra, perhaps someone in future might find your advise useful, good to know you don't need to call to transfer points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Oh, damn. Well, at least they're immediately refundable back as points!

Another option to reuse the points later and perhaps get better value to standard buy points is to wait for one of many bonus points offers (up to 100% bonus combined with a good AUD=USD exchange rate can be handy).

Or just use the "alternative" points purchase program. A stay that's "Points and Pay" is basically the same as buying more points but at a significant discount to the normal points purchase price. If you happen to cancel a "Points and Pay" stay, the $ component is refunded as points (along with the points you use). The total points can then be used for something better or a longer stay.

'Flash Sale' on points until 10th. June.

100% bonus.

I just paid $US1,000. for 100k, and 200k posted in my account immediately.

Including foreign currency conversion and card fees, the 200k cost me $1,390. So, roughly $AUD7. per 1,000.

I've been staying twice a week at Holiday Inns at 14,000 points a night.
So 14 x7 = $98. a night.
But if you consider the 500 point amenity, and a 10% AMB rebate ....
That's 12.1 x 7 = $84.70 a night.

They can be tremendous value with even better exchange rate. Also for longer stays if you get 5th night free.

I can't see the sale on the website - any links please?

See link at post #6. It should just be there under “Buy” points. If the link takes you straight to Gift/Transfer, the you should also be able to get there from your IHG account on the website or app.

There is a minimum purchase (11k/US$125) to get the 100% bonus. The max is 250k plus 250k for US$2500.
