I've built up a sizeable balance of Amex Ascent and Gateway points over the last six months and I am looking to redeem some of them next year. Everyone here raves about suites class on Singapore Airlines so I'd like to give it a go. I'm preferably looking for flights between Perth and Tokyo or flights from Perth to the US (New York). I understand Singapore flies the A380 between Singapore and both destinations.

I'm having difficulty using the Singapore Airlines website to search for award bookings. I can only work out how to view one set of flights at a time and often there's no availability. I'm wondering if there's a way to view say a whole month's of availability like on the Qantas or United website. From what I've seen by searching these AFF threads it hasn't been possible in the past but I'm hopeful things might have moved on...

Otherwise if there's no availability I guess I could transfer my Amex points to another program - there seems to be availability on other Star Alliance airlines.

I've never found a flexible date search option for SQ award bookings, only picking an ideal starting date and then clicking the next day and previous day buttons.

We (and a lot of others who've written about their experiences with SQ award bookings on here) booked our flights nearly a year in advance to avoid the "waiting list" (I think it was 350 days out they opened up our flights, and they were wait listed for the first 24 hours, and then opened up to book) and get award saver fares instead of the full award fare.

You will find a lot on advice (there has been a lot of chatter about this in the last few weeks) on the SQ Tips, Tricks, and Tales thread about how to utilise and hopefully clear the wait list.

You can search for SQ awards one week at a time using Expert Flyer (although you need a paid subscription).
