Has anybody any idea what aircraft REX will eventually buy to replce the SAAB. I think it would be great if REX could take over Tigerair routes and slots and use B737 as smaller jets would mean higher fares for budget travellers. I feel sure Tiger are finished. Please excuse my post if incorrect as 1st post and didn't seem to work well. Any Ideas as told required title.

Welcome to AFF MyAustralia.

The issue with Rex is the small regional airports that Rex serves. If you have to add the cost of passenger screening, the fares will likely be too expensive. And neither can the regional shires afford the cost to install and "man" the boarding process. The capacity of the SAABs falls below the limit where the screening is normally required.

Hi MyAustralia, welcome to AFF.

Rex's replacement for Saab's has been discussed a few times on AFF. I think the consensus is that they will continue to operate them for some time. They certainly won't be moving to any form of jet for their current network, I don't think the economics stack up.

Here are some discussions:

Thanks very much,
I was actually relating to the fact if ZL became a major player on the major routes. Then online transfers with all benefits of connections to its regional destos would be an advantage. Where as now if you flew say NRT/CNS and flt late etc you would lose connex and fare on the other airlines flt. I would love to see them take over TT routes.
Regds .

Rex got a massive serve from the ASX for not following disclosure regulations with their idea of operating trunk jet services.

Their statement in response walked back most of the idea.

Labor senators are now asking why Rex has revived $81 million in commonwealth assistance which is more than VA $25m and QF $37m combined. I suspect that the feds have had a word to Rex and told them the optics of taking millions of federal assistance and crying poor while launching a jet airline aren’t great.

Did John Sharp or Rex receive any penalty for the very significant release of info about their plans, before informing the market? Does a 'massive serve' carry a penalty?

Hmm, a former Nationals member as deputy chair of Rex and the current Nationals leader and minister for transport and regional development just happened to find a very sizeable sum of public money to help that company out... all above board in every way I'm sure.

Today (Sunday 7 June 2020) the Federal Minister for Transport announced further 'minimal route subsidies' for QF and VA with ZL also set to receive more $ from the public purse. These arrangements go until 31 December 2020. There are one or two media articles.

Thanks , personally think they desrve all they get and as a FF. Using all carriers. Try getting to ZL destos interline with other carriers . N /A Try getting to many places without REX. I wish again wish they could operate Tiger routes.with mid size jets sim to B717 pity boeing do no longer produce sim . Would be a great market, with Boeiing name.
Sorry , but I feel ZL do a great job serving communities no one else wants. Look at their routes. No I have no connection with ZL. Nothing to do with this but whenever my wife see's them she says , there go sexy REX . No we are not young but appreciate their service. Try moving around FNQ and you will know. Also their fares are very flexiable unless you pick Promo fares
Thanks

Part of me would be sad to see the old Saabs go. My daily driver used to be the Saab 900 Aero, so you can see how I'm slightly biased. 'Twas the end of an era, when they stopped produced those things!
