Sorry if this has been posted before but i am taking a job in ASP ( and i will fly from SYD)and the direct route is obviously with Qantas as they are non stop. I am WP with Virgin and was wondering if Qantas have "STATUS CREDIT " bonuses or is it just points like Velocity?

I need to make a decision on whether i stick with Virgin going via ADL or starting at Bronze with QFF and working my way up gold.

You could always hit up QF for a status match once you have a few bookings in the system.

QF WP Benefits include:

1. Dom J Lounge access regardless of class flown;
2. Intl F Lounge access (including other airlines as a OWE);
3. Yes, re your question above. 100% status bonus of FF points when travelling;
4. Priority seat selection, boarding and access to security lane;

Others will add to this.

Ok,

Thanks for the info and it answers my query as i was under the impression that QFF gave Status Credit bonuses but it is only points.

You get status credits by flying, there are offers now and then, sometimes targeted/sometimes not where you will get a 1.5 or double status credit bonus if flights are booked within the period of the offer, sometimes they do offers where its double frequent flyer points....

So not sure what you are asking, yes there is the potential for SC bonuses, perhaps at quiet times of the year when they want to generate more bums on seats or just generate more bookings?

As to getting a status match, you probably just need to ask... They can only say no... Or yes, or yes with a challenge...

There are no such thing as status credit bonuses. The lower rates for re-qualification compared to attainment sort of take this into account.

If I were in your situation, I'd be contacting Qantas and requesting a status challenge based on your current Velocity status and upcoming work travel.

Not based on status (in my experience). As others have said promotional offers come out offering 50% or 100% more SC's if you activate the offer, book within the required booking window and travel within the required travel window. However these offers aren't status based.

Hi stickshaker - and welcome to the red-side of AFF!

TBH If I was considering building status in QFF, my first question would be why I wanted the additional status. I realize the *immediate* incentive is the routing that QF offer over VA however if status is the imperative out of all of this:

1. How long would you have to suffer the ADL connection on VA?

2. What would be your long-term goal?

There's little point in building status in QF only to abandon that after a couple of months. Sure, if you can get QFF to status match (highly unlikely) or status challenge (more possible) then you could realize the status benefits sooner but, again, would be detrimental to your long term goals?

An example: about 18months ago I abandoned QF - having hit WP for the year - for 5months, convinced that QFF was no longer for me (and having the WP to fall back on that year if I needed to fly QF) and started to build Velocity status. Once I hit Gold, I realized that the differential between Velocity Gold and Plat was not that great and - actually - long term the QFF scheme did fit me better (this sort of coincided with Joyce's wavering with oneWorld at the time QF jumped into bed with EK).

In hindsight, that "lesson" has cost me longer term:

1. This year I'm likely to drop to SG at the end of my membership year - those additional SCs could well have stood my 3 year average in good shape for an additional year of WP (if the comp-gods were going to smile my way!)

2. I've missed about 700 SCs which could now be contributing to my lifetime SG.

Sorry if this has been a bit of a ramble, but I think you need to consider the longer term implications of jumping ship across the whole Velocity scheme rather than just considering from a short-term (if that's what it is) perspective.

Regards,

BD

Thanks for your thoughts and information.
My main concern with VA is they only fly to ASP 3 times a week and with Qantas i can leave at 1.30pm on the Friday and be back in ASP at lunchtime on Monday.
It is food for thought and i will have to weigh up both options.

FWIW, I think this is very relevant. The Alice <-> Adelaide Virgin flight scheduling is not the greatest for someone working Mon-Fri. Also, because VA can't justify having an engineer in Alice, if there are any technical issues with the aircraft there are either long delays on the ground or it over flies Alice for Adelaide or Darwin. It does happen. I will say QF, for all their faults and foibles, real and perceived, run impeccably reliable 737 services in and out of Alice.

I'm not sure how long your job will last, but QF has lifetime status if you hit 7000 and 14000 sc's. VA doesn't.

Qantas won't offer you a status match, but recent reports are suggesting they are offering Virgin FF members Status Challenges.

If I recall correctly, its 200 status credits in 3 months for Gold? There are reports on statusmatcher.com
