Sorry if this has been posted before but i am taking a job in ASP ( and i will fly from SYD)and the direct route is obviously with Qantas as they are non stop. I am WP with Virgin and was wondering if Qantas have "STATUS CREDIT " bonuses or is it just points like Velocity?
I need to make a decision on whether i stick with Virgin going via ADL or starting at Bronze with QFF and working my way up gold.
Hi
stickshaker - and welcome to the red-side of AFF!
TBH If I was considering building status in QFF, my first question would be why I wanted the additional status. I realize the *immediate* incentive is the routing that QF offer over VA however if status is the imperative out of all of this:
1. How long would you have to suffer the ADL connection on VA?
2. What would be your long-term goal?
There's little point in building status in QF only to abandon that after a couple of months. Sure, if you can get QFF to status match (highly unlikely) or status challenge (more possible) then you could realize the status benefits sooner but, again, would be detrimental to your long term goals?
An example: about 18months ago I abandoned QF - having hit WP for the year - for 5months, convinced that QFF was no longer for me (and having the WP to fall back on that year if I needed to fly QF) and started to build Velocity status. Once I hit Gold, I realized that the differential between Velocity Gold and Plat was not that great and - actually - long term the QFF scheme did fit me better (this sort of coincided with Joyce's wavering with oneWorld at the time QF jumped into bed with EK).
In hindsight, that "lesson" has cost me longer term:
1. This year I'm likely to drop to SG at the end of my membership year - those additional SCs could well have stood my 3 year average in good shape for an additional year of WP (if the comp-gods were going to smile my way!)
2. I've missed about 700 SCs which could now be contributing to my lifetime SG.
Sorry if this has been a bit of a ramble, but I think you need to consider the longer term implications of jumping ship across the whole Velocity scheme rather than just considering from a short-term (if that's what it is) perspective.
Regards,
BD
