Hi,

I'm taking a flight tomorrow (VA7422) in fare class V operated by Air New Zealand (flight NZ722). Does anyone know if I can credit the miles to SQ and if so, what percentage I would expect? According to SQ, V class on Virgin accrues 50% but then it's supposed to be based on the operating carrier, which is NZ...which I don't have the booking class for...

Sorry, I've googled, but I can't seem to find it clearly spelt out.

Thanks

Earn is normally based on marketing carrier, in this case VA.

I am shortly to travel to Singapore with my new lady partner and wish to use some of my points. Can I purchase a ticket for my partner using my points even though she is not a family member?

I purchased a ticket on SQ using Virgin ticket stock. 795. Q class. I had the mileage credited to krisflyer expecting 50% mileage, but instead Krisflyer gave me 10% saying Q class translates to V. http://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/KFOALLevels.pdf According to their Krisfyler accrual chart Virgin Australia Q class says 50%, they keep arguing that it's 10%. Am I wrong or what? Annoyed with SQ, I also asked them to delete the mileage from my account and credit to VA. They said, cannot be done. Anyone know if it can?

For Krisflyer it is the OPERATING carrier that matters, not the marketing carrier. I've nearly fallen for this trap, but I did remember the day before checking in to call SQ to check what fare class the VA codeshare mapped to on SQ, and identified that my 50% earn class on VA mapped to a 10% earn class on SQ. This is the norm across star alliance (its the operating carrier that counts), even when travelling non star partners, a trap for those used to programs where it's the marketing carrier that counts.

A coughshoot for the uninformed ....
