We've just booked a cruise from Auckland to Sydney Feb 18 and thought a visit to Queenstown pre cruise would be a great idea.

It's a long time since we've been there so I'm hoping for some help with ideas of where to stay. We will have a car.

I think we'd prefer to be somewhere within easy walking distance to the town so we can eat out without having to take the car.

A hotel/apartment with nice views would be good. We plan to stay for about a week.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or help with our proposed stay in Queenstown.

Thank you.

Crowne Plaza has rooms overlooking Lake Wakatipu and is a 5 minute walk to all the action

We stayed here a couple of years ago in a mountain+lake view apartment.

We absolutely loved it and I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. We happened to be there when it was snowing in town and it was magical with the fire on. I understand you'll be there during summer so you won't get that experience but the view will still be incredible. The room was very clean, modern and comfortable. You will probably get some road noise if you choose to use the balcony in the lower accommodation blocks. Make sure you do get a room with a view though, otherwise there's no point. We were there before they opened the upper 'alpine' blocks so I can't comment on them.

Its close enough to town for an easy stroll down the hill for dinner and wandering. You could stroll back up the hill but we just caught a $5 taxi back when we were done.

I absolutely adored my stay at St Moritz a few months back - I'll be going back there next time.

I've also stayed at Sofitel and Hilton numerous times but St Moritz was just lovely.

The Rees Hotel & Apartments are AMAZING!!! Great location on the water and the restaurant (True South) is brilliant.

Thank you so much everyone for your great suggestions. I will have a look at them all.
