Two passes over eastern Melbourne now over bay. Stayed under 6000ft initially now appears climbing to 8,000ft (? Fuel dump).

Assuming it’ll be returning to MEL, await more info but some weird and increased noise compared to most aircraft passing over ? engine issue or just related to relatively lower altitude.

Without seeing this (or Twitter!), I have posted in the Qatar delays/cancellations thread. You may be kind enough to post there (up to you of course.)

They appear to be in their way now after 2 hrs of Port Philip Bay bog laps. There’ll be a few missed connections in
Doha.

Looks like the better part of 3hrs flight time to land safely back at MEL with reported landing gear issues. Spent quite some time circling Port Phillip bay dumping fuel. The FR24 track shows it.

Is the aircraft still at MEL?

I didn’t see a QR tail at MEL this morning (10am)

The initial turn to the left, and then track to the north, looks like what you'd see for an immediate landing. It would have taken about 40 minutes to dump the fuel that you can get rid of. There are a number of things that can leave you unable to retract the gear, so there's no clues with regard to that.
