It’s a PITA for crew to continually have to open / close doors - just watch some the smaller Crew Members trying to hold a tray with one hand with food / drinks on it and open the door with the other hand

In all my flights I've never experienced that! (I haven't mentioned SQ biz's angled leg well / split left-right leg leg rest or no , but .... no I shouldn't. So I won't.)

Some final thoughts (just my opinions) re my first Qatar experiences.

QR070 FRA-DOH 787-9:

Lounge in Frankfurt T3 was Priority Lounge = basic enough but at least a secure spot to sit and wait.

Hard product – Herringbone J which seemed quite OK but I am no big fan of HB layouts. Seat large enough and comfortable enough to sit in – attach that shoulder belt and it feels like you are being cut in half. IFE was OK but nothing exceptional. I still detest the sliding door concept and hiding away in a sheep pen so doors stay open

Crew – extremely friendly and obliging – no discernible problems / failures re their duties – the wine ‘tasting notes’ spiel they deliver after pouring you a wine was a total surprise and TBH just a bit over the top – biut in general Crew were great although they just lack the polish of SQ.

Wines – good idea offering 2 choices Champs in J – Gosset Brut or Billiecart Rose really made my eyes light up. But then the reds – ordinary to say the least and after reading the hype about QR J I was expecting a bit better.

Food – real let down here – cold soup / overcooked tough steak / no ice-cream / cheese was about best part of this meal – you certainly wouldn’t rush back for the meal.

DOHAR Terminal – obviously first time flying QR so first time in DOHAR Terminal – WOW – just WOW – so BIG. 070 arr Gate C7 I think – our o/w dep C10 – I walked off plane and followed other pax to middle of terminal until I finding Info desk who directed me to 180deg about face and walk all the way back to Al Mourjan Lounge – clearly a rookie – great shower and so big – did not partake in any food but I did have 1 glass of their pink Champs.

I did not go near any of the DF stores but they did look amazing – and it wasn’t until I was seated on 904 ready to fly to MEL that it even dawned on me that I should have checked Doha DF prices. Bit late now but in general how do Doha DF prices stack up? Champs worth buying there?

QR904 DOH-MEL 777-300:

Lounge – been through that so nothing to add

Hard product – first introduction to Qsuites and as I posted earlier first impression is what is all the fuss about. I did understand cabin layout prior to boarding but until you see it then you fully comprehend. As stated I hate the high walls and the sliding door – but it’s far from intolerable. Seat is actually comfortable to sit in and IFE screen quite large. The flat top of footwell from reversed seat in front comes in quite handy to rest stuff on and open space beside you above that storage bin which allegedly will hose your shoes – well 1 shoe fits in their anyway

The Qsuite was terrible to try tro sleep on – that lumpy top part at shoulder to head height is a nightmare – damn lucky I do take sleeping tablets or I wouldn’t have gotten any sleep.

Crew – again all Crew very obliging and nothing was an effort for them but no continual monitoring of topup required on Champs / wine as I am accustomed to on SQ.

Wines – again a choice of white and rose Champs – the Henriot BdB was really plain – the Pommery Rose was OK – but again the reds left plenty to be desired.

Food – again very disappointing – like first flt soup served luke warm at best – I sent it back to be reheated and it took 20mins to return and even then just hot enough. Main course was some Thai Chicken Curry thing that had about 3 small pcs chicken in it – ice-cream asd posted frozen hard a- I do like thre chockies though.

Overall impression is that flts OK – certainly not up to what I expected – I would fly them again if timing and routes suited but they would not be my first choice.

Really interesting and aligns with my only recent experience with QR. I can see why people like the QSuites, but I didn't like the sarcophagus feeling. Food service was patchy and the champagne was room temperature, which should simply not be served.

Was more expensive than Australian retail when I priced some tech hardware a few years ago. Therefore dunno Champagne.

Did you go to traditional Al Mourjan lounge or the newer, bigger (better), Garden lounge (sometimes also called Al M north).

PS. People will know that I'm generally a fan of QR - but that didn't stop me trying TK and WY in my most recent 2 trips. QR still my fave but will return to the others if the price is right (maybe $2+K cheaper to Europe)

Mrs Jase and I both love our Dior fragrances and we’ve found they are very priced at Doha so usually splash out there
