I recently flew QR PER - DOH in economy and return on their A380-800 and found the seats not very comfortable with very little leg room and barely enough width.

I would normally fly EK which does have quite comfortable economy seats but a 5 hr change over in DXB left me very cold.
I certainly will avoid doing that again if I can help it

I flew both QR & EK (on the same trip) a couple of months ago.

I was on the QR A350 and thought the seats were pretty good, on par with QF A380. (I had been on a SQ A350 just days before and thought their seats were terrible).

However EK (777) was significantly better. I had a bad J experience on EK a while ago which put me off them, but I must say their Y was exceptional.

It's all quite hard to reconcile...after all EK was a pioneer of the 10 abreast 777...and any SQ 777 is still 3-3-3...whereas I think QR has a mix of 9 & 10 abreast 777s? Agree on the SQ A350 if it was the long haul version...I have never felt so confined when the seat in front reclined...whereas the SQ regional A350 was fine.

On the return IST- DOH, on a 777 I had paid the extra for economy premium and chose the "comfort" seats which I realised where what were originally premium economy those seats were comfortable. and the extra legroom at the bulkhead on the DOH PER leg which

I can't say that I've found EK's 3-4-3 economy seats to be very nice at all. A bit like EY's 3-3-3 787 seats. You don't want a person of any size sitting next to you... I speak from experience.

I used to think that was much the same for all/any whY seatS in that they tend not to vary much in width but there can be huge variation in pitch (that makes a hell of a difference overall - when you don’t have someone spilling over the armrests). But checking something in relation to a comment below it does appear that whY seat width can vary dramatically!

For example, I just took my first ever PG flight (short hop BKK-HKT). On board quite generous seat pitch (31” v QF/VA typically 30” and JQ 29” 😳). But PG seat width is 19.8” (v ~17” for VA, QF, JQ)! In addition, complimentary lounge access for any whY PAX (seperate lounge for J / status PAX). The whY lounge included comp wifi, snacks, tea, coffee and juice. There was a comp meal service, hot dish, non alcoholic drink plus tea/coffee.

Which airline is PG ?
Bangkok Airways. There was speculation they’d join OW (either full or Connect).

BTW, you can credit to QR Avios and redeem QF points.

"Barely enough width" sounds like the QR B777s at 3-4-3 (the same as EK and EY). QR's A380s are pretty comfortable I've found, and basically the same as EK and SQ A380s.

Nope, on the return I flew in the B777 on the first Leg IST -DOH in what would have been premium economy section reasonably comfortable seats.
then from DOH -PER in the A380 - but I had bulk head extra legroom seats. but they had barely enough width ...

Having done both QR and EK A380 Y in the last few months, I can't say I really thought one was better or worse than the other. It's Y. It sucks. It's uncomfortable. and any Y with a large pax next to you is going to suck even more.

Yeah, the bulkead extra legroom seats have the screens and tables in the armrests, narrowing their width, so it's a trade-off. I tend to avoid for that reason, thankfully I am not so tall.

Agree usually avoid the bulkheads for the reduced width and prefer the IFE/Table on the back of the forward seat.

The upside of the middle seat at the exit was that some mongrel gave me a cold in Istanbul 2 days before I left, and by Doha my nose was running continuously so I was up and down regularly for new tissues (which weren't particularly soft ..) and I could do that without bothering anyone ..
