QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic award seats?

Sometimes they forget to wave the Reward Assistance Fee but easy to get it reversed by calling back up. But I've never had it charged as cash — always as points (4500 domestic/7700 international).

Dumb question, but it's not the taxes/carrier charges for the reward?

I mean there's no reason a fee should be charged for a seat release request as it literally can't be done online. Never been charged a fee at all, nor would I expect it.
No that one is a separate line item (same day on the statement) and the amount corresponds to the emailed receipt from QF.

There was a theory on here that your current and future travel determines your success rate. If thats true I’m equal to NB as I have 1 flight booked this membership year.

I think it's more likely there is an allocation of seats which can be converted for Plats on each flight - say 4-6 per departure - and once those are gone, that's it.

That theory is completely wrong.
It’s a computer bot that determines whether or not a seat is released based on the loadings and award seats booked on that particular flight.

EDIT: For P1 it’s a human if the bot says no but that person is the route controller and they wouldnt know or care what bookings the P1 had.

I agree that's more the reality. One call I made (and I called 4 times today) the guy said there was I seats available on one flight but still came back denied. I think that was NZ.
2 calls went OS and both stated no seats available for request - no chance of even asking.
Last call was Australian, put up requests but both come back Nada. This was HKG to SYD or MEL over 2 different days.
There might be an allocation as one day had sale fares showing on the QF website - albeit less than 5 seats - it's still a no.

Anyhoo we have reward seats confirmed and all I am doing is trying to get a quicker home run than LHR-LAX-Stop-LAX-SYD and paying for a hotel and all the drama with a 24 hour transit in LAX.

8 June 24: QF128 HKG - SYD showing 24 I seats free, denied 2 J seats.

I’m not sure how accurate the information around 24 I seats is ….

It’s a A333 operating QF128. The only way I can get the 24 number is looking at the seat map which has 4 seats marked occupied and 4 blocked (row 1), so 24/28 seats not marked. That however may not be entirely reflectively of the loading

It’s actually J9C9D9I7 when you look at subclass loadings on expertflyer. I have a suspicion with only 28 J seats, and I7, the allocation for conversation from I to U has been exhausted

Also looking +/- 2 days for QF 128 from 8th June

6th - I4
7th - I1
8th - I7
9th - I5
10th - I9 (this would be the flight to try - only 2 seats marked on seat map)

maybe my man was quoting total seat count not ‘I’seat count.
No other days work, 7 or 8 are the only days BA has J rewards seats on offer.

Indeed, some of the language you hear from Hobart agents ('quota/allocation exhausted') indicates that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is only 2 J seats per mid-/long-haul international flight and 0 for select routes (eg LHR). You rarely see WPs reporting success of getting more than 2 J seats released on those flights.

Definitely route and season dependent!

Yeh, just spoke with Hobart who confirmed "allocation exhausted" on SYD-HND for July even though over 20 J seats available for sale....I'll keep trying up until the last minute as I'm try to convert MEL-NRT to MEL-SYD-HND as our onwards flights are ex HND (beginning a DONE4 RTW from HND )

MEL-SIN-HND maybe another option - JL usually has pretty good U availability on SIN-HND, and SIN is a much easier transfer than D-I at SYD.
