QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic award seats?

Called back - got lucky, got Hobart, as expected he could pick the flights I wanted. But he did have to get a team leader to do it, but he knew exactly what he was doing. Got to love that Hobart team.
Also HBA are generally more clued in (AKL too imo) regarding common sense or why we'd want to do things. Eg I've asked for much earlier flight connections to SYD to meet QF11 - both for Flounge, but mostly for the connection and outbound processing/security fun that SYD can be. Often the agent will express that it's a good idea to grab a much earlier flight and so on and make it happen.

Rookie question..
What are the chances of opening up 3 Economy Seats London - Melbourne return around Xmas?
Looking to go for the DSC with points club but will need to transfer in points.

Rookie Answer:

Ask and find out.

Probably unlikely tbh. peak time, probably a lot of seats already taken on the QF9/10 (or 1/2) but you never know til you try I guess.

I would say unlikely - I have award booking on QF9 for mid Dec for 2 pax in Y and tried to change to another date + 2 days and was told no booking class to request on either QF9 or QF1 or via Singapore connecting to QF1

Points must come from his account though
Lately whenever I’ve requested a seat the agent asks if there points are coming from my account or theirs (my mum’s usually). It’s never been an option for me before (and I’ve always said mine), but either this is a policy change or a series of agents who don’t know the policy.

Rang a couple of days ago to request 2x J Syd- Hnd just b4 Easter next year....knocked back but Hobart agent got us 2 x J Syd- Mel -Hnd which is a daytime flight....so happy with that! Best benefit of Plat status!
The agent also told me that Qf are very unlikely to release classic international awards ex / to Syd at the moment, presumably as $$ demand is very high....2 months ago I couldn't get 1x J Hkg- Syd classic award released but got 1x J Hkg-Mel-Syd released.

Hardly a shame for those with Points Club 😁

A little concerned of what to do
As a platinum member
On Feb 24 requested 4 classic rewards seats to be released for an overseas flight in early July ( school holidays) . Agent advised that the request should be confirmed within 3 days and it would be likely to be accepted. On my bookings the seats from that date are shown as confirmed and we were able to choose our seats,

Difficulty is that I have not been contacted to pay nor have the points taken out of my account
The plane at the time of request was 1/4 full and now is about 1/2 full - return flight is nearly empty

A little worried about ringing and asking because maybe it will force them to decline the request but concerned that I might have to pay the current price of $3500 and more closer to the date for each ticket if it declined

Has anyone else had the same issue?
How long does it take normally for classic reward requests to be confirmed ie paid for and points taken

I would ring. Timeline for SA call centre is days not months

I haven’t found this a reliable indicator of how solid your rewards seats bookings are, so I’d call them. They should be able to give you an answer within days, not weeks or months. You’re better off knowing sooner rather than later - if it was going to be declined anyway, not following up won’t change the outcome.

They’re confirmed, you need to call them and pay - they would have been confirmed within 72hrs and you usually get an email saying “We have an outcome, please give us a call”.

A guaranteed way to be denied boarding on the day is to not pay and have an unticketed booking.

Thanks, rang and paid
Never received an email despite checking every day
Strangely, They took the points out of my partner’s account who is only Gold and charged 4,500 points for each ticket as “Reward assistance fee”

Never advised of that fee…. Is it normal?

No, call back and ask that fee be waived because it's not possible to complete these requests online. HUACA until someone obliges.

Similar experience a couple of weeks ago. it was an absolute palaver to even get the seats released in the first place as I kept getting the Fiji and Auckland centres which do not seem to have access to the bot. Eventually succeeded with a Cape Town agent, but she erroneously charged the 4,500 fee.

Three calls later, acknowledgement that it was wrong, and another two weeks of waiting, but I'm still yet to see the points returned to my account.

They're an insufferably difficult company to deal with at the moment.

I've only ever had good experiences with Auckland and seat releases - the agents I've dealt with from there have access to the droid. I find our Kiwi cousins just as capable as the Hobart based agents.

Agreed. Similar experience with me.
First time it happened I had an agent that waived it straight away because he knew what he was doing.
Second time, I had an agent who didn’t know and I explained to her that it’s not possible to do this online so I need it to be waived. She spoke to her supervisor and got it waived.
