Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

So not have to work out how to get to London before Xmas. Boo Hoo hoo - may even have to resort to the usual and just buy them. :( Probably have to buy EK J in the hope that EK treat their WPs in preference for upgrades. (Annoying that one can't use QF points to upgrade EK flights.)

You could always just slum it and travel in J!

Fly in steerage? ymstbicnpc!

MrsTMA was involuntary downgraded from F to 10A in steerage on BA a few years ago, and she still lives the story! Never flown BA again. (Although she enjoy the £500 gift card.)

Just tried HKG for next Thursday and Sunday but computer said no :(

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

no dice from mr computer for the 13th december LAX outbound to SYD or MEL in F or Business to BNE.

no seats for a manual review. One agent had requested "seat conversion"

Was also mentioned no difference being CL only P1.

yucky situation. didnt want to have to fly back via SIN on the golden goose.

Do you have Expert Flyer? If so you could always do a flight alert f I r P or U class seats but then the question is what do you book in the meantime?

Can you book an award in whY then re-issue that to J if 'U' class seats become available?

Anything avail in J on FJ LAX/NAN for a partner award?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

just signed up to EF for the trial. so will put alerts for the 13th for P, U, I if i am right?

I know on the paid subscription you can have a maximum of 30 alerts so not sure about the trial. You would need to continue with a paid subscription if you want to receive notifications once the trial ends.

What about asking QF to release s U class seat ex SFO or YVR as that may have a better chance than ex LAX.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

13 December is just a tricky time to be requesting seats released though... peak school holidays and all..

All the best with the request though.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

how often do you guys call up to ask for a re-release request? The agent said as often as you like. i.e daily.

Could someone shed some light?

I've just called the help desk for the first time to try and get 1 or 2 J flight SYD-YVR and SFO-SYD released for this Dec/Jan. Short notice I know.

There are plenty of I class available but the droid is saying no and the helpdesk lady, is saying she can't even apply for a manual override until mid-Jan. Something about too many FF already on those flights?

Does this make sense? Am I requesting this wrong?

I'm platinum and happy to pay for a revenue fare for the other ticket.

Sounds like you're doing it right but QF RM (revenue management) has decided this is peak time(which it is) so they'd rather try and sell these seats, or leave them open till the last minute, than open up seats. Sounds like the agent has been instructed(well all of them) to don't put a request in till after the main peak holiday, which is interesting.

You could try HUACA to see if you get any better chance, but seems unlikely.

QF really should improve this system.
For example now they require 'I' class to be available, but it's still a yes/no type deal.

I would like to see:
- Guaranteed redemption for Plat1 on at least 1x yearly with no restrictions (ie: could be 1 day prior in F for entire family).
- If you have a confirmed revenue ticket in the same class and the award request is for SO, then a higher weight applied to releasing the seat (especially as there is risk of the revenue seat being cancelled and rebooking both in lower cabin, or another airline)
- More BI integration into the release system to determine risk factors around not releasing the seat. For example: You're Plat and have 0 QFF points in your account and request a biz seat. Not only does QFF generate new revenue from the points (which statistically FFPs know for every $1 the FFP makes the airline will make 10x that in sales), they also have a more engaged member (which again is another metric around the coalition side of the biz + partner earning), it also helps QFF big data systems learn more about the customer (which again, they directly make $$ off by applying the same data to other members, their patterns etc..) + many more.

For example airlines can easily that tap into banking data (scary - yes, does it happen? yes) and knows how many FF points you can potentially move to the FFP. If a customer has the potential to shift millions of points into the program from a bank; deeper analysis needs to be undertaken (by a computer - automatically) on the likelyhood of that customer shifting points into the FFP.

Of course the counter argument is data on who is buying the revenue seat (if it even sells), or who gets the points upgrade from that extra available seat and the business they could bring, and/or lose because of their experience.

Not saying releasing a seat is always the right thing to do - but the current yes/no computer system clearly only looks at a few factors, and no doubt there are cases where more revenue is LOST by not releasing than any incremental gain in selling the seat at full price - if indeed it's sold at all.

Coincidently I tried having a seat released today too - no go, despite loads of 'I' class, on a date that historically is cheap to fly (indicating that the flight doesn't 100% sell).

I was willing to pay revenue for one seat, but just wanted to save a few (thousand) bucks on the other...!

Will try again tomorrow, but suspect that it's no use. That's fine, I'll try for an award release for later in the year!

If you have 0 points in your account and request a seat, then where are the points coming from? Or are you asking about a P+P without the points :D

Interested in the last part - what do you mean about knowing how many FF points can be moved to the FF program? Points from where?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

A little variation from the norm ?

Has anyone attempted to request a seat release in a higher cabin class while holding a Classic seat on the same flight already i.e. effectively request an "upgrade" [rather than a "seat"] release ?

Thanks

I would guess that holding an existing award booking on the same flight would be irrelevant.

You would first request a higher cabin award seat to be released and if successful you would use the required amount QFF points + pay for the taxes and surcharges. Then you would need to cancel your original booking and be refunded the QFF points less any cancellation fees and also refunded the taxes and surcharges.

You are simply performing the same process, however it is not an upgrade it is a classic award release. No different from changing dates or routes using the same benefit.

I hope so, JK.

Just waiting for my CC bonus to appear before I put "theory into practice".

It appears nobody has done this yet ?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Some months ago I asked for two seats in J for a domestic flight, when only one was available online. I was advised to book my mother into the one visible and then ask (as a WP) for another to be released. It was declined after a manual request was put in. In the end I bought a Y seat and upgraded.
