QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic award seats?

Usually a very good chance for X if there aren't any major events happening in the destination city. Decent chance of U on weekend departures earlier than 8am too.

The mid morning flights are pretty unlikely especially without as many widebodies on domestic these days.
Cheers, not too in the mood for $300+ one way SYD - MEL Y tickets /$1k J hence seeing if this is an option.

Called yesterday for a trip to the US for MrsDaver6. Three of the four flights released last night, including QF7 that showed I2. Was surprised. One flight wasn't release immediately, being QF94 which showed I9. 24 hours later and still showing as requesting (U).

On hold now to follow it up. Notice it now shows as I0, but not looking promising.

I'd love to understand the logic. I9 not released but I2 is 🤷‍♂️

Inventory is only part of the equation. Route controllers have info like history of flight, actual bookings, RM rules, forecast loads, requester PCV and probably a bunch of other metrics to decide on. It also varies by route of course.

That's why we tend to say just having I available is no sure sign of approval - even for P1.

The Route Controller is only involved with P1 requests not approved by the bot unless I am mistaken ?

Everyone else is done by the bot only.

Yes good point. The "bot" of course goes on far stricter rules but probably includes more metrics than just inventory.

Though bot is usually quick with a response. Having requests on hold for a few days suggests a review of some sort?

May
QF9 PER-MEL 2x J Approved (from I) in May
QF10 MEL-PER 2xJ Rejected (from I) in May - non-int options approved

July
QF9/10 1x in Y - both rejected but non-int options approved (interestingly nothing in N was showing on the dates i was after when searching via ITA matrix)

October
PER-MEL-SYD 2xJ Approved (PER-MEL from I, MEL-SYD already available in U)
SYD-MEL-PER 2x J Approved (MEL-SYD already in U, MEL-PER from I) - tried QF33 from D but rejected

There must be some manual intervention in requests too. As I mentioned, three approved on the call. One still pending 24 hours later. Not complaining, it is what it is. Just curiosity :)

Just curious, but what sort of success rate do people have rewards tickets in domestic golden routes close to flying date (within 2 weeks)? Is it effectively 0 chance? Or any specific class availablepity to look for. (Both X and U).
I've never had a domestic request knocked back for X where there has been N class available, even close to departure (even on the same day). U is a bit trickier and the bot definitely applies more scrutiny to these requests... even with D class availability I've had these requests knocked back but still regularly able to get released when travelling imminently.

There isn’t AFAIK. Sometimes the bot response isn’t immediate.

The most common misconception is that "no response" equals a rejection.
If it was rejected, it wouldn't be pending.

Looks like it's right.

X released when N is available
QF499 Friday 1 march.

Also asked a bunch of flights with S but no N. No dice.
Time to see if I can flow forward on the day.

As a lifetime gold (not that the lifetime part matters much) if I have booked a paid PE international flight and I put in a points request to upgrade to J, does the bot consider the higher fare class that it starts with? Or would a platinum requesting from economy still get precedence?

I think higher fare class is processed first. Someone more knowledgable can confirm that though.

Still showing as requested today. Called up. No cigar. Allocation exceeded I'm told. Oh well.

Wait until they drop a sale and apply again?
How would revenue fare drops/inventory changes (sale or otherwise) affect classic award inventory - ie. those that have already been allocated (booked by others)?

If there are Sale seats available you can ask for them to be released as Classic Reward, I think.
