Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster here.
Please bare with me if this is a stupid question.

I have had to book a flight with BA, due to time constraints QF did not have any flights available for me. Which must happen next month.
My questions is, I am a QFF Silver and also QP member, am I able to use the BA lounges whist I am in LHR for a stop over? my destination is VCE.
On the way back I have a 9 hour layover due to me arriving at LGW and then having to get to LHR. I really don't want to be wondering the terminal like a vagrent for however many hours.
Also can I use the QP in SYD before departure?
I will be travelling WT+

Also with flying via BA will I loose any points/SC.

Any info you can spare would be great.

Cheers

If you are flying BA , then your Qantas Club membership will allow you access to the BA lounges , so you will be fine as long as there is a lounge ( including SYD)

Flying with BA shouldnt loosen anything , however you may lose out on points.

Flying on BA to Venice you will earn 25% mileage but normal SCs if in discount economy

On flights from UK-BKK/SIN-Oz , then you will earn exactly the same as on Qantas

In full economy, business or 1st , there is no difference

Thanks for your reply Dave, much appreciated.

I will be travelling in World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy Class).

I did this trip back in Feb 09 on the QFA380 in PEC and it was great. both to and from LHR.
Will be flying BA747 there and BA777 on the way back. So should be interesting to see how it differs from planes and FA.

I recently few to SIN on a BA777 - great service - heres a link

I must admit though, a 777 is a long flight with two engines ;)

BA fly their 777 faster from SIN-SYD than QF flies a 747.

When I did the journey a little while back, I was on the BA flight. Took off 10 minutes after the QF flight but arrived before the QF flight

Pilot skill in asking what the weather is like up higher and his skill at pushing the throttle handle? was on a QF flight LAX to Sydney 15 minutes behind another QF jumbo and during the night our pilot over took the other QF flight in front of us. (double aircraft for school holiday loadings)

As we came into Sydney they made an announcement about it. (a showoff perhaps or his final flight before retirement?)

As was said earlier, Use of Qantas lounge seems completely interchangable with BA. I recall the BA 1st class lounge at LHR is excellent - hopefully it's similar for the other.

I'm interested in your experience flying premium economy. I've only done it once (Sydney/Bangkok). I found it better than economy, but a long way from business or first class. The additional leg room made it tolerable. The seat recline is a bit better, but a long way from lying flat.

These days there is plenty of movie entertainment, and with the larger screen than economy, it helps pass the time fairly well.

I'm using it again next month to LA. I'd be interested in your comments.

Having never flow in F or J class international I really don't have that to compare Premium Economy to.
However flying compared to economy class, it is a god send. I have been luckly to only fly on QF A380 to LHR there and back.

The reason for me to do this is as follows:

1. Cheaper that F & J class. Company policy is NO F or J class travel unless paid for by yourself. So for me this is only a dream at this stage until I rack up a lot pf points.
2. Smaller seating numbers. In the A380 there is about 32 seats (I think fom memory). No screaming babies or kids running up and down aisle. Also PE is upstairs so not much noise.
3. More leg room, better screens, larger seats, the extra recline in the seating makes it better for me anyway, better food, more personalized service from the FA as there are not as many passengers in the section.
I was also lucky that I had "exit row" seat both times, if you can call it that. I had seat 38K. So the leg room was massive. as thoses who have flown in PEon the A380 will know the doors are huge. You don't have issues "stepping over" someone.

So for me this was a really good travel experience for someone only traveling in standard economy.
If you are use to F or J then going back to PE will hurt. lol.

Thanks for the comments.

Alas, dropping back to premium economy is almost too awesome to contemplate. Just using points for a private holiday to Alaska, and business was booked out.

Be aware - screaming kids exist in all classes. Many times I've flown to Europe business class with the need to go straight from the plane to meetings. I depend on plenty of sleep and rest. To find I'm seated near a family with one or two babies is a nasty shock. However, I agree it's less likely in the upper classes.
