After flying MEL-LAX-MEL a couple of weeks ago which were fully loaded both ways in every class, my flight MEL-LHR next week looks like the exact opposite. I know you can never fully trust the seat maps, but surely 9 days out from the flight it's unlikely that economy is somehow going to miraculously fill up? I know it's off-season, mid-week but I would've thought it may have been a bit more demand?

Keen to hear people's feedback. As a customer booked into Y-class I'm about as excited as I can be about embarking on a 22hr economy trip. If I was a Qantas shareholder I would not be impressed!

Seat maps are never a good idea to work out how busy a flight is as they dont show codeshare or group bookings traffic, the flight does look lightly loaded going by the seat buckets

I'm booked on a .br special, so non-upgradeable fare class unfortunately.

But wondering if it would even be worth it even if I could with loads likely to be extremely light in Y anyway?
