QF63 connection: QF8 vs domestic flight?

Hi all,
For travel BNE-JNB on 11 March:

If using QF8 BNE-SYD to connect to QF63 SYD-JNB I would clear outgoing immigration in BNE, correct? Bags checked to JNB and I arrive at the right terminal in SYD, but with only a 1hr10 connection time.
If using QF505 I get a 2hr connection time but have to change terminals (and collect bags?)

Allowing for possible delays in the DFW-BNE leg of QF8 (although now showing 89% OTP, avg 20min delay) would it be safer using that option or the domestic BNE-SYD flight?

I would go with QF8, once checked in and through customs its easy enough to transfer at Sydney.

I'd also go QF8... Just beware that they don't call it QFLate for nothing... That said if the booking is all on one PNR, they you'll be fine...

If the booking is all under the one PNR (booking, although often even if it's not and it's all QF flights) then you won't need to worry about picking up your bags at SYD T3 if you did go the QF505, they will be transferred across to INT for you. Also whilst people complain about the terminal transfer in SYD, the reality is it's not really that bad... There are numerous options including the train, and the free (if all on QF) transfer bus which runs every 10 minutes.

If QF8 is late you will get a text message around 3am in the morning....they are good at shifting you onto a domestic flight.....check it before bed to see if it has issues or not. International clearing at BNE is so much nicer.
