Hi all,
I have just completed a JASA and have found that it is showing a Non-refurbed 744.
Now, I have have only flown on a refurbed 744 so I just wanted some quick guidance.
I have selected 16A which I gather is a good seat, if it's anything like 14A / K on the other birds.
How are the first class seats allocated. I still see that they are available for Classic Awards at F Class points. Terrible if you ask me.

given HKG is an F class route I imagine they are allocated to F passengers if that's what you mean?

Of course. Sorry I was getting confused with when they do an equipment swap. Then the pax in the front rows get an F class seat on a J ticket.
Who knows what equipment QF will be using then anyway. (If at all).

Depart Syd on Wed Nov 12th 2014 return is on an A388 so no worries with that one.

Mrs OATEK is of the view that Premium Economy might be good enough for our long trips, and I have chosen QF127/128 to try out her theory. We also have the 747 up, and 380 back (in April 2014). Just realised we haven't been on the QF 747 since 2008! So it will be interesting to compare Y+ with J, and 744 with 380.

The QF127/8 is one flight where you want First class. Business class is the angled seats.

Q in the OP:

16A IMO is the best J seat on the old config 744 (along with 16K).

Not necessarily, I fly to SIN often in the A333 and the angled Mk1 is fine during the day. It's horrendous overnight though. Either with or without French bubbles!

I sleep during the day so angled seats are not ideal. On a flight to singapore I'll still sleep for all but about an hour. Day flight or nght flight is there really an excuse for an airline not offering a market leading product?

All but 1 hour. That's a great effort !
I don't think I could sleep that long on a Mk2 bed for that long.

Mk 2 by definition is fully flat J, however due to wear and excessive load, the "droop" is becoming somewhat more prevalent..

To the OP, if you have a J ticket and on a non-refurb 747 you will still be getting a J seat - they sell F on that route even on the 747.

Although on a few recent flights it has used some aircraft without an F cabin so I don't know what kind of compensation they gave to F pax, if any.

The QANTAS Source - QANTAS Flight Tracker.

It may be worth ringing and enquiring about a cash upgrade to FASA, pending P availability.

For the days that the SYD-HKG flight operates with a 747, I presume it's not a 400ER but an original 400.

Is this aircraft configured without an F section such that it's only J, E+ and E? If so, what's the best J seat to try and get?

First class is offered as a cabin for sale.

I am booked on QF127 in April, and Expert Flyer shows the allocation to the four class 747 (14F/52J/32W/255Y). This aligns with the seat map in MMB.

Of course last minute changes happen, but it seems they try to run the four class most days. Looking back at October/November/December in the QANTAS Source (The QANTAS Source |) it seems that they ran the 3-class (eg. 58J/36W/270Y or similar) on 3 or 4 flights. All the rest were 4-class (380 and 747).
