I am booked on QF11 744 SYD-LAX service on Monday the 9th (2 days time).
Got the typical phone call yesterday to use points to upgrade (from an O class fare) which I did with no hesitation at all (into U class) (was already assigned 39K Y+ seat with Y service).
Anyways, had an interesting conversation with the QF chap on the phone when accepting the upgrade and once locked in he asked if I had a preferred seat. I just said forward window, as per my profile...
For 15-20 seconds I could hear him typing away then he came back and said he would put a request in for either 1A or 3A... Now that really got my attention... (for those that don't know, they are F seats). He said the aircraft was being sold as 3 class, with paying J or status pax being able to use the front pointy section.
Now... before I get to excited (given that it was stressed that it is only a request) I go check on QF.com and I find that they are actually selling 1st class seats on that service...
So is this purely a yield thing, or may the aircraft be really flying as 3 class???
I have just looked on E/F and I don't really believe what I see... Y & J is totally occupied or blocked, with 3 seats available in Y+ and 11 seats available in F cabin???
(Manage my Booking on QF still shows no seat allocation).
Seatcounter is showing 9's in all fare buckets (except O)
I am confused...
Snagging an F seat would be a great start to what is going to be a huge couple of weeks (my 40th plus meeting up with some buddies I haven't seen since 2004, add to that a couple of flights which will rocket me past PG status all in F or P class... LAX - SFO - SEA* - SFO - LAX - DFW - CMH* - DFW - LAX* - SFO - SEA* - SFO - LAX) (* designated stops).
Advice, Opinions or the rubbing of Buddha bellies for good luck greatly appreciated
