Re: QF107 LAX-SYD Feb 26 didn't leave - it lost its Captain. Good and BAD service fro

Based on my Sydney experience, I feel sorry for anyone checking in more than 1 bag! The CIC who served me was not junior, at least in terms of age.
If you do not/did not know what you are entitled to, and get hit for excess, then you would pay and probably be a little pi**ed off. However QF would be laughing all the way to the bank.

It was only that I've done this trip so often, and that I had a dream about it (), that I double checked what I was entitled to before going to the airport, so I was more than sure of my facts.

The only thing Pat could think of was that because we came in on Sunday and flew out on monday, then the computer had put in an overnite stay and had lost the link to the international booking. But when she checked the computer (and I was looking at it with her) all the info was there to be seen.

Oh well, she did say more training was coming very soon due to the new baggage checkin system, so I suggested she make sure this was included.

I shudder to think what would have happenned if I'd gone up to one of the new automatic baggage units :o:o:o

Just received a $300 voucher from Qantas, with a letter saying sorry for the hassles.
It was unexpected, but appreciated.

I was going to suggest that maybe this happened because you were using Next Gen checkin for the SYD/ADL flight but I'm assuming in light of the above comments in your last para it was not.

My understanding of the system is that the system should read the piece system irrespective of whether you had an overnight break of journey in SYD provided that the SYD/ADL was included in the intl ticket.

However even if SYD/ADL was in a separate pnr & the system wanted to charge you excess, in your case in anything above 33kg the CIC can click on 'change to pieces' & the system will apply that rule - they just need to enter the intl flight number you arrived on (QF16, UA841, VA2 or whoever) in the box so the system will convert the baggage allowance to pieces & it should recognise you get two plus and extra one you are entitled to for being QP.
