It was only my second time requesting an upgrade, and I was surprised to get it - I thought there'd be a lot of other passengers with a higher status than me.

Travelling NYE missing the fireworks at midnight is not the most popular day to travel, though probably more popular than travelling on Christmas Day.

Points upgrade from Economy (flex fare) to Premium Economy on QF17 (5 Jan SYD -> LAX) approved roughly T30. Request submitted end of November, with lowly Bronze status. First flight on Qantas since early 2020!

QF9 MEL-PER 06/01/23 classic reward upgrade Y to J confirmed -48 hours. After receiving numerous emails asking me to “bid for an upgrade”, I figured there were plenty of empty J seats available! I hadn’t intended to until then.

One'd imagine that there might be some sort of announcement or celebration or something to say that we have arrived in the new year ... May be a round of champers in the F/J cabin and some vino in Y?

Is it customary to make/note any such occasions like NY, Christmas etc during a flight? @jb747

Unfortunately my request for Y to J on QF11 was not successful also WP, unless its a gate upgrade but doing a quick check looks like there are no seats left.... lets hope I get better luck on the SIN-MEL sector on the way home. Well done on the upgrade though!!
