QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgraded from Economy (L) to Business on QF6 (11th November) using points literally requested at T-25 (10 minutes from when OLCI opened).

Upgrade came through at T-12 when I went to check my booking though I didn't receive a text message.

QF Club Bronze.

I think what happened was a last minute equipment change from the seat business suite back down to an old config with Mk 1 skybeds. I had been checking the seat map on expert flyer.
Was pretty stoked with the upgrade as the late departure let me get some sleep before a full day of work!

ps finally stopped being a lurker today ahaha

Congrats on the upgrade coming through and welcome to AFF :).

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade to J from Y flex for tomorrow's QF6 SIN-SYD confirmed just ahead of T-28. I'm particularly happy it did, as I moved from a very full QF82 to increase my chances. A333 suites config, for now...

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Woo Hoo, how good is this. Got the magic text at T28 J to F on QF11. Seat 1A for me and 4F for mrs eric. Shame we cant be a bit closer but doesn't matter really. EF was showing F5 and A2 when I looked early this morning so was a little bit confident. QF12 coming home is next and EF shows it looking real good

Received the magic text for the return flight QF12, J to F as well. Batting at 2 for 2 so am a very happy traveller. Looking forward to the 1st lounge at TBIT.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Watching for a couple of months, first time poster :) Two successful upgrades 12th Nov QF7 J to F and 29th Nov QF94 J to F :p

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Master FM (SG) upgrade Y+ to J QF12 on 21 November, but no joy today QF17. It has been very full in business since I booked it 4 weeks ago, so I thought there was minimal chance.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Have booked qf93 from mel to lax in discount economy for my husband and myself in mid January. Does booking this class prevent applying for an upgrade to J class? Looking at EF there are still seats available in J. Also should I assume that blocked seats shown on the E F map are booked? I am OWP and my husband silver.
Thanks for any hints.

If you go to the Qantas web site and select "Manage your booking" you should be able to click on the upgrade button, which will take you to a page that will list each segment of your booking. Next to each segment will either be an "Apply for upgrade" link/button or the words "not eligible". If it has the button you can apply, if not you purchased a non upgradable ticket.

Usually the cheapest sale fares on economy are non-upgradeable however if booking on the QF website click on the link to display the fare rules as it will state whether or not the fare for that sector is eligible gor a points upgrade.

This is before you finish and pay for the booking.

On our upcoming trip to HNL next March we booked a Saver fare (upgradeable) outbound on the overnight flight & sale fare (non-upgradeable) on the inbound day flight.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Successful upgrade QF3 SYD-HNL, SMS came in at T-60. Now secretly hoping that some IROP would require an aircraft swap to a 333 with the new business suite:p (I think it happened once according to another thread..)

Don't forget to do your seating and your Qeat requests now you're in J.

Master FM with another upgrade. This time Y to J on QF 12 Lax-Syd on 10th Dec. Upgrade came through at about T-10. He is SG and the flight was booked 9 days ago. Upgrade requested for QF11 on 4 January, but I would say zero chance as very full.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I'd venture to guess that Y-to-J upgrade is more rewarding (comfort wise) than J-to-F.

You definitely look after that boy - hope he appreciates it. :p

Absolutely the difference between J and F is more about spoiling yourself with a bit extra, whereas Y to J is unbelievably different!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

J -> F for MrsChooms and I, QF11 tomorrow. Came through some time before T-50 hours as I checked EF early morning yesterday and our J seats had become vacant and points deducted. No text, but got a call from the lovely First host today to arrange the spa.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Do PE-to-J upgrades take priority over Y-to-J upgrades?

I've got an upgrade request for SYD-HKG Y-to-J but I've also ticked the boxes for a PE upgrade if J isn't available and an upgrade at the gate. So if someone in PE has put in a J upgrade request will that get granted over mine so they can put me in PE and fulfill two upgrade requests rather than just 1?

YMMV, however my understanding is that upgrades are processed in order of F, J then PE. Then within each band it comes down to status. Within status it may involve PCV but only the yield gods would know. In a tough race it may come down to fare, therefore the PE pax might pip you at the post, but only if they have the same status as you. Clear as mud.
