QF Status expiry for dummie

New to QF FF
Membership renewal date is december 31st and current have 40 status credits. about to conduct a trip next month that will bring the status points up to 700 and thus gold.
Will this gold status remain only for the end of 2016 or will it not expire until 31st December 2017?

Once you reach a tier it does not expire till the end of the following membership year. So in the above example Gold would expire on 31st December 2017 unless you fly enough next year to retain that status level. You would need 600 SC next year to retain it.

The Double SC offer this week could come in handy if you can book flights from Jan-April next year already.
