Hi there,

This is my first post on AFF (although often read articles here)! Thanks to everyone for making this community happen.

I am planning to book a trip to Sri Lanka later in the year and was looking at the Qantas status earn rates to see what is best value for earning/retaining status.

To do this, I use the Qantas status credit calculator tool, and then also double check this with the manual status earning charts (as I am curious about how to optimise the trip).

However, when I put in a dummy booking, the Qantas website interface indicates a much lower status credit earn rate compared to the calculator.

For example, ADL-MEL-SIN-CMB in Saver Business (not flex) should be 240 SCs one-way, according to the Calculator tool (and also the manual SC earn-rate charts). But when I go to book this fare, the website says it will earn me 165 SCs one-way. See attached a couple of screengrabs.

(Yes, these are all flights with a QF code out the front)

Is this an error? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your advice

It’s an error on the booking page. For some reason it never picks up non-QF operated flights (even if QF codeshare). From looking at it stating 165 SCs I suspect that the MEL-SIN leg is booking into ‘Business’ and getting you 125 SCs. Therefore, the calculation showing on the booking page is the 40 for ADL-MEL and the 125 for MEL-SIN. It’s just not showing the 80 for SIN-CMB

May I ask, what happens when you select the ticket and check how many SC's does it show in the final confirmation page?

I've had something similar in the past, the number of SC's shown as in the screenshot you posted is less compared to the number of SC's listed in the final confirmation page.

Similar occurred for 3K (Jetstar Asia) flights with a QF codeshare. i.e MEL to PEN. Only 30 SC's are displayed, but I'm assuming that the correct SC would be 40 given the confirmation page shows 40 SC will be earnt.

What happens on the calculator if you change the airline for the SIN CMB leg to UL instead of QF?

When I tested this out the calculator shows the number of SC's earned when on a partner airline.

So, if as an example, if the passenger earned 20 SC when travelling on a QF number, the passenger would earn 10 SC when travelling on a partner number
