Sorry i know this probably is done to death and obvious to some.
Just when i thought i understood the QF earning table i find myself confused.
So i was looking at the QF points earning calculator for some flights and strangely the status credit earn via AA metal AA coded flight is the same as if it was booked under the QF code on AA metal. But in other cases it is the 50% earn i have come to know/ understand.
SFO - LAX AA code is Discount Y is 100 points 5 SC. Regular J 400 points 20 SC
Do that under QF code 800 points 10 SC. Regular J 1400 points 40SC
But i look at LAX to HNL and its a different story
LAX - HNL on the AA code Discount Y 800 points 25 SC, Regular J 4000 points 100 SC
Do that under QF code Discount Y is 1600 points 25 SC Regular J 4800 points 100 SC
I did a quick search on the QF website for J with SYD - LAX, LAX - HNL, HNL - SYD. and what puzzled me even more is that when i switched the QF & AA coded flights from LAX to HNL and the SC didnt change. Points were 800 less on the AA code though as expected.
So i find myself even more puzzled since i was trying to get as much on a QF itinerary with QF codes as much as possible for max SC earn. But if booked a few separate tickets via AA direct on their codes it comes out cheaper and according to the booking system and calculator very similar in SC earn for some routes.
Is this one of those dont mention it or they will fix it things? Or are both the Booking engine and calculator deceiving me.
