Is it correct that QF pre order meals are not available to F pax? I read in QF website that they are only available on Y, Y+ and J for flights out of Australia. BA allows pre order F meals out of London. Hubby was on F with BA a few months ago and wanted a fish dish on the F menu - it was not available :( He is a very fussy eater, so that did not make him very happy. They got him fish from J class which he said was awful.

I've never had the need to think about pre ordering food on QF F - when you can have the entire menu (trying to push a picture of Monty Python's Mr Creosote out of my mind) there shouldn't be any need to order before getting on the plane.

To be fair, I have never flown BA F as I try to avoid BA due to poor past experiences and Award fuel surcharges.

If you are flying to London and are keen on fish I can recommend the Emirates 1st lounge in Dubai, they have a good range and it is all freshly cooked to order.
More of a concern to me is worrying if they will run out of champagne before arriva

Thanks, The Flying Brick.

Well, you see the problem is that we are not alcoholic drinkers (champagne means nothing to us - and a waste on pax like us in F!). Yeah, agree with you that BA services are quite underwhelmed. When we live in Australia, we used to complain a lot about QF. Now, living in the UK and flying with BA we have stopped complaining about QF. Hubby will transit in Dubai and be in Emirates F lounge but the time he will be there are early morning hours so no time to take advantage of food.

The fact you cannot pre-order in F should mean there's a guarantee you won't miss out on your choice. The majority of menu items in F are the same as J, so there should be plenty onboard. In my (quite few) QF F experiences, and from what I gather on this forum, it is unlikely a F passenger will miss out. BUT, I would advise that you / your hubby ask for your preferred meal early on and, if wishing to dine later, ask for it to be set aside. There have been stories of F pax asking for a meal mid-flight and being told there was very little available.

Thanks, kermatu. Hubby will travel to Oz by himself. He wanted me to see what he could pre order - to avoid his awful experience on BA F a few months ago. I hope he can find something on the menu he wants to eat!

Have you tried calling QF and request a special meal?
I believe for First there was an expansive list of special meals available.

lol... it doesn't mean the F fish dish would have been any better had it been available

For some reason, BA F doesn't stock enough meals for each passenger to have a full choice in F. It used to be a bit of a problem, but solved now by the ability to pre-order.

I haven't experienced the same problem on QF, with the exception that some menu items may run out if you want them later in the flight outside the assigned meal (for example, ordering a main meal dessert for the pre-landing snack may return a 'we've none left'). To get around that you should ask them to keep one aside for you.

Once in BA J, I asked for the pasta meal and they hadn't kept count on what was left. They ran out then got me the F pasta meal.

I wish the QF meal preorder window was longer then 7 days.

While I know dishes from different ports will change, my mother is flying from HKG soon and I had a look at "Select on Q Eat" to find Grouper and Sea Bass as two fish choices out of 5 total main choices. Seemed like a decent offering for the flight to Australia for J.

We will be in BA F from Lhr to hkg next May then CX J from hkg to Sydney, so look forward to visit the 2 F lounges again!

I generally fly BA on HKGLHR and always have a full dinner in Wing F, and latterly Pier F, for that exact reason.
