Hi all

Just looking for clarification as to whether QF FF points are earned on SAA flights?

SAA is listed as a QF partner and I am aware that QF codeshares on some SAA routes but it's unclear to me browsing the relevant pages on the QF web site whether all or only specified SA-coded flights are eligible for QF FF benefits.

I've picked up a nicely-priced JASA PER-JNB-PER next year and I've booked some within-Africa flights with Kenya Airways and SAA. I'm wondering about earn on the latter.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

When I looked at this a few months ago it was clear to me what SAA flights got points/SC
Kenya was not included IIRC

Note
Points are not earned when traveling in classes other than those specified.
Cabin bonus is applied to the base earn rate for each individual flight you take.
Points can only be earned on:
- domestic flights within South Africa operated by South African Airways with a SA flight number;
- international flights between Australia and South Africa operated by South African Airways or Qantas with a SA flight number.

I think the link says that his SA flights will earn points but not SC, as long as he's on a booking class shown in that table.

Keep reading - underneath the table, it continues on to state that only SA-AU flights, and domestic SA flights operated by SAF earn points.

If the flights are domestic within SA, answer is points are earned, if not domestic within SA, answer is no points are earned.

Miles and SC on your JASA = yes, on South Africa internal flights (such as to DUR, CPT etc) then yes for miles (no SC - AFAIK), outside of South Africa on SA - no miles and no SCs.

Another option of course is BA flights (on Comair) out of South Africa although their network is pretty limited to South Africa and southern african countries, but you'll earn both miles and SC then.

Whoops read "within Africa" as "within South Africa", I stand corrected.

No SC though - this is from experience. Flying BA/Comair is the only way to get SC

Thanks all for the rapid and comprehensive response :).

It's as I thought, but I just wanted to clarify after reading the small print on the SAA section on the QF web site.

It's no big deal, I know I'll get SCs and points on the PER-JNB-PER codeshare JASA; it was more of a curiosity question for my SAA flight Kigali-JNB. I won't bother flashing the QFF card when I check in at Kigali...

No dramas - it's just a Y- fare that I got on Expedia to get me back to JNB after treking to the gorillas in Rwanda. The week or so prior to that is a flying safari from Nairobi through parks in Kenya/Tanzania to Mombasa then back to Nairobi to head over to Kigali for the trek. Can't wait!

Again, thanks and cheers.

I'd love to attend, but I'll be at the tail end of a two week cruise of the Galapagos at that time - facilitated by another JASA: PER-SCL-PER .

I get back to PER on the night of 30 May, then grab PartnerJohnM the next morning to re-jump into J on QF to spend the WA long weekend in SYD.

Life's tough :p.

I do not suppose that with the loss of the Kenya Airways flights from SIN-NBO there will be a change to the SAA rules on no points / status credits on flights to other countries in Africa, namely Kenya? I know unlikely but just wondering if anyone has seen anything and it has been missed with all the fan fair of the QF/EK partnership.

The reason I ask is the QF/SAA flights from SYD-JNB-NBO are extremely good value in a J sale (as of 8pm on 12/02/13) that I have not seen advertised anywhere on the QF website. We already have J flights booked from SYD-JNB on QF but I could cancel them and book these and only be spending around $1000 extra. And it costs a lot more than $1000 to book JNB-NBO flights with either SAA or Kenya Airways, I've yet to book these as I have been waiting for the QF/EK partnership to come to fruition to potentially change to go via DXB.

Unfortunately the SYD-DXB-NBO connections are yet to appear but having seen another AFF'er has raised this with QF already I am happy to wait a bit. Hopefully the J sale fares are still there at the end of the month.

You could buy 15,000 miles in the next USDM 100% bonus offer and get a business class redemption from JNB to NBO return... 15,000*0.035*1.075+30=$600 plus whatever airport taxes... Another $100 perhaps?? Just a thought... No FF points or SCs....
