Oh, this could be a long email. So, I’ll put it in dotpoint.

. Online bookings : frustrating sometimes when I can’t change myself and have to pay a service fee because I have had to ring through to QF.
. From Auckland I dial either the NZ 0800 number or the worldwide number on the back of my card, neither allow me to enter my frequent flyer number and I can wait for a very long time on the 0800 number, and quite a long time on the worldwide number. So much for the platinum privilege. I tried to convey this to the operator today (I know – it isn’t her fault – I said it in a nice way!) but she wasn’t inclined to be even a little sympathetic about it!

My rant : this one actually started on 09 September, but I won’t give all the details. However, I rang to change a business class fare today : very long wait, when finally connected another long wait because something was wrong! I even thought I had been cut off and was about to hang up and ring again when the person came back online. I’ll dotpoint it or I may get a little emotive.

. I had already made one change, and it seems that the previous operator on 09 September had given me the wrong fare. At the time I questioned it, because it meant a refund to us, but she checked and checked and even checked again (apologizing profusely) to tell me that it was correct and I was getting some money back. That almost made up for the fact that I couldn’t change the reservation online (where I had booked it – QF website) and for the very, very long wait before and during the process. A service fee was applied.

. Today, the operator came back online to say that the operator on 09 September had made mistake but they would honour her mistake. HOWEVER, this meant I was now on another fare basis and although I could change the booking, she’d have to look at the fare and charge me. I asked her to go back to the origingal fare basis, but that wasn’t possible – I am not sure, it was getting a little beyond me.

. She came back and said that I would owe $2500.00. I cancelled the booking - a fee of $200.00

. I went online and booked the flights that I wanted for $1000.00 more than the original fare. So, to do this, it cost me $1200.00. If I had continued with the operator, it would have cost $2500.00.

What a waste of time and resources – so frustrating. Just needed to share!

I really wanted to start a thread the other day re best things about Qantas, but I am not feeling too friendly at the moment! After I cancelled, I actually looked at other airlines, but the flights didn’t connect with the flights I had already made with AA and AeroMexico. I have to say that I wasn’t happy that I had to rebook with Qantas - they weren’t my favourite people today!

This is one of the reasons I personally prefer to work with a Travel Agent especially if you get a good one with whom you can build a good relationship.

I know we don't have the full story so cannot really comment but you did not call back to speak to another customer service agent?

When I was in hospital last year and could not travel to Thailand one customer service agent said that I would have around ~$450 credit left over to use from an ~$1100 airfare as I could not travel.

Another customer service agent advised me not to cancel the airfare but to change it at a later date and just pay a service fee and any difference in airfare. This change ended up costing ~$150 which was just the service fee and change fee with no change in airfare.

i am sure you are right JohnK, but I was really overloaded today and, as per my post, the long waits when I ring QF due to no priority number when one is ringing from overseas ....... and given that I had several more connecting flights ........ all happening within a couple of days ...... well, I just had to do what I had to do. but, I will certainly bear this in mind in future. Thank you. :)

What I was thinking last night, can you call to the Australian number using Skype and that way get the priority service?

Now, this is interesting. That is what I used to do but Skype won't do the 13 number any more. So, I ring from skype on the 61 3 number on the back of the platinum card. Yesterday and last week, it didn't ask for my number, just the recorded message asking me to wait for next available operator.

The person yesterday, after I said that I wasn't asked to put in my ff number, said that that service was NEVER available on the 61 3 etc number. I didn't bother to answer that because I know that I have done it.

Well, incredible, today I range the 61 3 etc number, and the automated message (what do you call the darn thing!) gave me the option to put my number in!!!!!! Joy, oh Joy I was answered immediately!!!!!

Agreed, and please don't think that I haven't done it. I have just had a very few trying and frustrating calls in the last few weeks. I have always called with Skype, and not had the difficulties I have been having. Great to get all the suggestions though! I think I am going to write this week off as a bad week! ;)

Re: QF online bookings, reservation line for platinum, service fees and a great big r

...... fortunately I don't have to ring QF for quite a while. And I am going to take the suggestion of just turning over everything to a travel agent in future. Am willing to admit that maybe I am dialling the wrong number on Skype, but I've been doing it for years, so can't really understand that I am doing something wrong. Can you both please tell me what you dial?

Cheers!

I just dial 13 13 13 and it then asks for you FF number and it redirects me to the Premium Desk

Re: QF online bookings, reservation line for platinum, service fees and a great big r

on Skype - did you do 61 first? I just did it and Skype did what has been doing for a while now - tells me it is an invalid number.

So, I skype the 61 3 number on the back of the platinum card.

Maybe I have a problem with my skype - thanks!

Isn't the premium desk only open between 9:00am-5:00pm? That may explain why sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't.
