Hi All

I have recently attained Platinum status - and i'm no certainty to retain in in 12 months time.
So, i'd like to use all the benefits available to me over the next year.
I remember when I was younger taking 747s between Mel and Syd on what would then become international flights, or had been international flights.
Is it still possible to do this (I travel Mel-Syd fairly often) and use the F Lounge en route? How would I book such a flight if possible?
Thanks for your help.

If you are heading to Adelaide on Tuesdays you do have the option of QF81!

As a recently qualified first time WP I was hoping the same too, as I used to do MEL-SYD on the international segments quite frequently 5-6 years ago.

These days, MEL-SYD on JQ30 and SYD-MEL on JQ35 are your best bets. There are a few others too, but these will at least get you into the F lounge at both ends, but not earn you SC's or points (unless you're booked into the relevant fare class of course).

I'm doing a run this w/end for my first F Lounge sampling :)

The days this service operates does vary from time to time.

It currently operates Thursday and Saturday - not Tuesday.

Unfortunately, this service will cease at the end of March.

I hope the people catching it tommorrow are not dissapointed then (its cheap compared to the domestic flight going 15 minutes later which probably explains its pending demise), perhaps you are thinking of QF82 ADL-MEL???? Given the OP is Mel based AFAIK I thought QF81 was pertinent, after all the F lounge experience is not avbl in Adl!

Apologies for misreading the previous post to which I replied. To clarify:

QF81 operates SYD-ADL on Thursday and Saturday.

and

MEL-ADL on Tuesday.

I flew MEL-SYD earlier this afternoon on JQ3 (which then flies onto HNL and I was very wishing that I could have stayed on board through to HNL)!

OT, but prior to JQ3 I was in the MEL QP and there were no boarding announcements nor did the departure screens give any advice. I was near the entrance when Passenger XX asked the QP lounge dragons if there were any JQi boarding updates. As no news was received the lounge dragon called the JQ gate but after a few rings it went straight to a recorded message. Passenger XX went back into the lounge after the QP host told her it would be OK to go back and relax, until further notice that is. This meant she was able to finish off her Pumpkin Soup or whatever she was eating ;) So with a bit over 10minutes before the scheduled departure, I decided to head to the gate myself anyway.

I took the immediate elevators straight up to the concourse, and the moment I those elevator doors opened, I hear over the speakers ... "JQi is paging the following passengers Mr. Alanslegal ......."

I RUN!!

I arrive at the gate and I get yelled at by the gate dragon who says "You should have been here more than 10 minutes ago!!!!"

I tell her that I was in the QP and there were no announcements at all. I also suggest to her contact the QP and page Passenger XX because Passenger XX was still in the QP (enjoying her Pumpkin Soup because you failed to let the QP know that you commenced boarding!)

I sat myself into Seat 33B and tried to get comfy despite forgetting to go to the toilet in the rush of things, and 10minutes later I see Passenger XX boarding and trying to squeeze her carry-on's into the already full overhead locker compartments.

Is this just the domestic legs or the QF81/82 ADL-SIN flights and vice versa?
