Hi All
I will be travelling MEL-SYD-DFW on May 16 - the first QF service to DFW.

This will be my first trip to the USA and certainly the first time on a 15.5 hour non stop flight! I booked economy but seem to have been allocated a premium economy seat which is great, i assume I got that because im Gold FF.

What can one expect on this service? When will the food arrive through the flight and what on earth do people do to entertain themselves for such a long period of time!?

Any tips for my first super long haul flight..

Thanks!

Go aisle seat.
Get a great book.
Get your IPod charged.
Consider noise canceling headphones.
Make sure your IFE and reading light work.
You will be fine and don't forget to do some of the suggested exercises.
I think the longest flight is now about 20 hours so yours is not the longest.

I would have thought SQ22 SIN-EWR at 18hr 55mins was currently the longest, am I overlooking another one?

TG

TG I think that is the A340-500 that does that run and I think that is the longest one I have heard of on SQ.

Good luck with the flight, it will be interesting to hear your feedback.

The longest I have done is MEL - DXB which I think was around 14 hours. It was in Y and I took a couple of sleeping tablets, optimistically hoping to get some sleep.... No luck! I was awake for the whole flight, muttering as a mantra to myself ' this too shall pass' :) and it did, just the horrible memory remains today. ;)

If it's anything like, other transpacifics, then you'll be fed a dinner after departure.

Take this while spending 4 hours or so watching a movie or two. Then try to sleep. Note that you WILL be awoken maybe 3 hours before scheduled arrival for breakfast.

Agree with Serfty ,
After dinner service watch a movie or read then sleep best way trip goes real quick. If I can't sleep usual put ipod on and always have a window seat and stare out the window if daytime flight then I definetly fall asleep. Window also good to lean against
One drink helps toooo

Let us know how you go. Ill be doing this flight on June 20 with an onward connection to MIA.
Enjoy the 2nd longest (time wise) QF service!

slightly off topic, but does anyone recall what cities QF7/8 served in the past? I seem to recall flying LAX-SYD years ago, as a late morning/early afternoon departure out of LAX and think it was QF8. Arrival into SYD was late evening, just before the curfew I think.
cheers,

I flew Bangkok New York- non stop with Thai. Seats were not good in Business as they did not recline flat and were very hard. Very tiring towards the end 18 plus hour flight. Only good thing was looking out at the Artic as we flew very near the north pole. Quite a view!!!!

Pray that the second 8 hours goes quicker than the first 8 hours. :(

That flight is way too long for my comfort level in any class seat....

SAA used to do a non-stop TPE/JNB service on their B747-SP which I believe an one stage was the longest commercial flight however non sure the exact duration of the flight - might've been 17 hours approx.

for the OP, and just a question to those who have flown in PE seating with Y service - do you still get the noise cancelling headphones? Or to the sockets accommodate the normal Y headphones?

I too was wondering about the long flight times. Do you think there will be an extra mid-flight meal service? So dinner, light breakfast and then lunch? (I think both SQ and TG served three food services on their ultra long hauls)

Or do you think they will stick with the dinner, snack-on-Q and then final meal?

People will be getting a bit bored for the 15 or so hours outbound and 16 inbound.

If you are in Economy Class, even with PE seating, you get Economy Service.

So you get Economy Headphones - the 2 pin plugs fit into the 3 hole sockets at the same specification.
