I understand from reading here on AFF there are 2 QF lounges at LAX and that the one in Terminal 4 is much better than the one in TBIT. I'm flying out of TBIT on QF94 which doesn't leave until nearly midnight after a long day of work in LA. I was hoping to be able to grab a shower and freshen up before getting on that long flight back but I understand that the lounge at TBIT doesn't have showers? Can I use the other lounge even though I'm not departing from the terminal? The QF website indicates that there is an interim lounge operating currently at TBIT as there is a new one being built? Can anyone shed any light on that?

Cheers

T4 lounge is airside - so only have access if flying in to that terminal, or flying out of that terminal. TBIT indeed currently has an interim lounge. New alliance lounges are being built - when is your flight? The interim lounge has no shower.

Can you change your ticket to fly LAX-SYD? All SYD flights leave from T4. Otherwise you might be able to get a shower at an airport hotel for modest cost (but some inconvenience and cost in time) - either day stay or pay to use the gym.

My understanding is that the interim lounge is teh only loung at TBIT and there are not shwoers. You can only get access to the AC in T4 if flying out of T4. I think some people get access to the T4 AC when transiting onto a TBIT based flight if they fly into T4 on their way through.

Thanks for the info guys, its not looking good. My flight is on the 17th May so not sure if I could change it now, its a discount economy ticket so I'm pretty sure they would charge us to change. Are there any other lounges at LAX with shower facilities that we could pay to use?

Cheers

Nope, or rather not cheaply. LAX lounges are all (AFAIK) airside, and you only have access to airside if departing from that terminal.

You could buy a one way ticket on airline that has a lounge with showers (and that you can access based on class of travel or status), but most likely that will be much more expensive than a hotel day stay or pay to use their gym.

Thanks again for the prompt reply kiwiflyer

Any suggestions for good and handy hotels to try out the day stay/pay for gym option?

Cheers

Check with the airport hotels (there are lots - all major chains represented).

Last time I did this (October 2006) I stayed at the Hampton Inn (I needed HHonors stay credits). They didn't have day stays per se but I found a cheap rate (~ $50) and was able to check in in the morning and checked out in the evening before my flight. This gave me access to computer and shower all day, free breakfast, as well as whatever else I wanted to do in the room.

Might be easier to just stay an extra night at the hotel you are using for the rest of your LA stay. After work, head back to your hotel, show, eat, relax and then check-out around 9pm and head to the airport.

So is that a case of "Great minds think alike", or more like "fools never differ" .
