Hi all,

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this, so apologies if my sleuthing wasn't very good and this has been answered... however...

When taking QF11 from SYD-JFK with a change of metal at LAX, is it simply a matter of disembarking, clearing customs & immigration, then transiting within TBIT? As in, no need to change terminals for this connection?

As usual I can't find any info on the QF website, so any info on this connection would be appreciated :)

For some reasons every time I have flown this route in the last 4 or 5 years the Syd LAX section has always been late, just enough that QF always has a person on the ground to help people through customs and onto the next section.

This is correct.

After the immigration/customs keep an eye out for the QF11 transit signs.

Hi!

after clearing customs and collecting your checked bags, you'll exit through to the arrivals hall. When I last did this, there were staff with QF11-JFK signs who checked boarding passes and directing where to recheck bags. (From memory, I was told to just pop it on a running conveyor belt nearby because the tag was already checked all the way to JFK from MEL).

Then Make your way around to the departure area, where all the checkin counters are, up esclalators and through security to get back to the airside of the terminal. You'll stay within TBIT during all this.

It was a lot more straightforward than I thought. took me less than half an hour and I was at the gate waiting to get on the connecting flight.

Enjoy! :)

Read up on here. There are some older threads about transiting in LAX.

Ive done QF107 through to JFK and had time to shower. I know it's the same plane so isn't as helpful to you.

I also did qf11 to an AA flight in T4 before connector was finished. Was 3h layover but probably less since we were late. I had time to shower in TBIT and then head to T4 for another security screening.
Took me just over an hour to deplane go through CBP, redeposit luggage and security again to get to the lounge.
