So this morning, G'DayUSA, a programme of events designed to showcase Australia across the US, had its soft 2016 launch at Sydney Airport's Hangar 96! P1 and CL members of AFF would be familiar with this hangar from other private QF events.
Although I am a lowly SG, my company is a sponsor of G'Day USA and so my CEO and I went along. I was doubly excited as I got to see the A380 up close, and from a different angle. Boy, is it big. REALLY big. The aerobridge used to board can disguise this, I think.
I didn't get to do a full tour of the plane inside as I was on parade with the boss, but I still had a lot of fun. Below are some of my (badly taken) pictures of both the event and the hangar.
QF and DFAT are the principal sponsors, and their respective heads (Alan Joyce and Julie Bishop) were on parade. My old mate Richard Wilkins was MC, and couldn't help but strut. J-Bish had obviously seen the act before and was a bit over it, I think.
I wanted to try and capture the sense of size and scale of the hangar too - it's amazing.
Thanks Qantas for an interesting event.
