As a mostly self funded traveller, I always value full service providers and book with them when the price is right, therefore I check QF.com frequently,
I have noticed that from time to time they will have a domestic sale, say SYD<=>MEL, and I suspect that the frequency is about once every fortnight, to prove this I have started noting the dates here,

Their base fare for SYD<=>MEL is generally $104

Noticed today the flat/base rate for the next 12 months is $89 for SYD/MEL.

Interesting :D

Isn't $89 the price for 'E' fares? Maybe they released a bunch of these over the next twelve months.

Just noticed that myself... in the process of booking now (waiting on the boss for leave approval..)

These are my kind of fares :)

Sweating on some SYD-BNE 'E' fares before the weekend. Don't think I will be so lucky....

There's some $94 SYD-BNE fares in the system. Whether they are at times remotely useful to you is another question....

That is the normal airfare and there are not many of those left. Most are $120+ for the dates I want to travel.

It looks I will be spending a few more weekends in BNE unless QF brings out some more $79 specials. Either that or switch some travel to DJ for $93 ($85 + $8 for luggage)....

I know how much you hate Jetstar, but if you take up that NZ QFF promotion you can earn some SC to Sydney, but not points, for $69-79. ;)

Even if I could get through the Jetstar fear and paranoia their schedule SYD-BNE vv does not suit a business traveller. JQ has 3 flights SYD-BNE on a Sunday and 2 flights BNE-SYD on a Friday. I would just love to be on the JQ 16:40 BNE-SYD flight and it was cancelled for some reason.

And while I was looking JQ airfares are not that flash if you do not book months in advance. Last flight Sunday SYD-BNE on Jetflex is $229 where as Jetsaver is $189 and no SCs and last flight Friday BNE-SYD on Jetflex is $229 where as Jetsaver is $159 and no SCs. Not the kind of airfares I would expect from a LCC....

And just in case you thought I was cheating and not giving Jetstar a fair go here are the QF and DJ flights for the same days.

QF on Sunday SYD-BNE has one flight at $156 and a host of other flights for $181 and on Friday BNE-SYD a few flights at $156 and a host of other flights for $181.

DJ (including $8 for checked luggage) on Sunday SYD-BNE has most flights at $188 and on Friday BNE-SYD one flight at $143, most flights at $163 and some flights at $188 or higher.

So as you can see QF is clearly the best deal in my situation travelling at the last minute....

If you register for the NZ Jetstar promotion you can earn SC on Jetsaver fares in Australia too, until the end of the year. So effectively, for this year only, you could earn some SC if taking the cheapest fares.

But yeah, the lowest fares are always gone months in advance, sucks.

Nah, didn't think that.

Do you use Webjet to compare all airlines at the same time, or individually search on all of them?

Individually searched each airline when I posted last night.

I am sure some people are very surprised to find that QF are actually cheaper on a lot of occasions. Again the illusion that LCC's are going to be cheaper....

I'll let this get back to the topic now, but I find the same, QF is generally cheapest when I am making a booking somewhere.
