Hi guys,
Is anyone else having trouble finding seat availability?
I am looking in First for January from SYD to GVA (preferably QF to DBX then EK to GVA).
Heaps of QF and BA availability, but all though LHR. No EK availability (in any class!).
Do they release reward seats this far out? Called QF and they were unsure weather EK had released seats for Jan or not, however there is availability to MXP.
Any thoughts?

I have posted in another thread on this - by all reports a lot of awards were made available at midnight on 1 April - they disappeared quite quickly. I have just seen availability in F DXB-LHR on EK - I actually needed J DXB-LCA though...

F seats on most airlines are very limited.

I'm just a punter and have no stats on this stuff, but I actually find F seats much easier to find than J on QF, BA, AA and SQ.

EK seats in any class seem VERY limited at the moment, I hope they open up more...

Classic seats on EK started appearing before 9pm Saturday (WST) and I was able to lock in J seats PER-DXB & LHR-DXB, however no availability for the return journey on both of those legs. After that initial release of seats, it was almost as if EK award seats were withdrawn from the QF system- no availability next year even. Yesterday, at random, I decided to check for my two missing sectors- and lo and behold- they magically appeared and I booked them without a second thought...well aside from wondering how much luck I would have asking for a 10,000 point refund on booking all sectors separately (costs 10,000 more QFF points to do this way). So, yes, I do think they are either having problems merging some systems and or EK are only releasing award seats to QF randomly. EF shows the flights I am booked into as wide open at this stage and awards were available on the EK website too.
Also, could have sworn that cookies were interfering with my ability to see availability for CA seats- when one of the sectors that I needed opened up, I went back to check on the other one I needed, which was too available- and when I went back to book the first one it was not available any longer. Deleted cookies from Safari and it was there again...co-incidence?

I tried through premium reservations yesterday and had no luck getting anything reasonable in June July to the UK. The (excellent) rep I spoke to said that bookings went through the roof when the EK awards became available and the handled more bookings in that one day than in the whole of March last year.

I probably won't take the trip now as the only options I could find are 4/5 stoppers each way.

I'm not sure that we didn't have a lot more choice and availability when you could connect with BA from multiple Asian connection cities.

You can still connect to BA if BA have awards available (quite unlikely at this short notice even before the change to the JSA).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Update
Over the weekend I had a call from Premium reservations. They have found me absolutely perfect flights on the dates I requested. I have to route through Mel (BNE is home) rather than direct DBX BNE, but that's a small price for a return to Europe on points. I'm going out on QF metal to DBX, change to EK, then QF all the way home.
Perfect

Update from me, after a lot of playing around with the online system I found two pretty great First return Classic Awards seats to LYS, which is as ideal as GVA (where I was originally looking at heading to). Three of four flights on EK, other on QF.

The interesting point is, I found these flights on dates where it said there were only economy seats available. When it shows a month availability view with little seat icons on different days (red for economy, yellow for premium etc), I just clicked to see if they were EK flights or BA flights... and bingo! Two First seats available. I had been clearing my browser cache etc (and tried on different computers)... similar result for different days and routings. Maybe a transition bug with the awards reservation system?

Great news! Random checking works every time!;)

Nice to hear you had such good service from the Premium Line Canny man. Have a great trip!

I was in a similar situation - I was ready to redeem my points when the "floodgates" opened on 31 March for DXB-SIN-DXB sectors (outbound April and inbound August) as part of a bigger complicated itinerary. I checked every day thereafter in the hope that there would be award seats released. I was about to give up hope and pay for a revenue seat when award seats suddenly appeared on 10 April, so I booked them immediately...

What were the taxes and surcharges on those F and J redemptions, about $1000??? Or more with the UK APD??

Today I booked 2 Classic Y awards for Mrs and Miss Aus ATC. Nothing on offer ex BNE, but we decided on flying from MEL. Destination is CDG. Options of QF9 to LHR with BA connections (64k+$450.00each) or EK409 (via KUL) / EK75 (64k+$150 each). Guess which one we chose! Nice to see Classic Awards available without massive fuel fines.

Can anyone tell me if the EK taxes/fuel fines are still significantly less than QF. I'm looking at a MEL-Milan Classic Award example. Both QF and EK options are there for May 15. I'm hoping to book a one-way ticket for a family member and before I transfer my CC points to QFF I was keen to know the tax amount. (On that point, is there any way to see the taxes if you currently do not have the required points in your QFF account?)
