QF and HA don't have an agreement for IATCI (InterAirline Through Check-In).

You have to clear customs in HNL, so you have to pick up your bags anyway.

Whilst QF res may have entered your HA flight ex HNL as an information or ghost segment this is not linking. When you checkin for your QF3 flight they won't be able to see the connecting flight as the ghost segment in the pnr in reservations does not generate to Altea.

For QF to be able to check you bags through to your HA destination the HA flight they must be confirmed in the same booking as the QF3 flight. This is not the same thing as having QF add in your HA flight as an info or ghost segment.

For example if you were booked in the same pnr MEL QF x/SYD HA HNL, QF could check your bags through to HNL as they have an interline agreement for baggage when both flights are booked in the same pnr.

IATCI (inter airline through check in) is the arrangement that exists between two airlines that permits one airline to complete checkin for another airline's flights & the issuing of boarding passes eg QF have an IATCI agreement with SQ whereby if you were travelling MEL QF x/SIN SQ CAI, QF would be able to check your bags through to CAI & give you both your QF & SQ boarding passes.

If both your QF & HA flights were confirmed in the same booking, QF could check your bag through to HA flight to the Hawaiian Islands eg OGG but you would still need to checkin with HA in HNL & obtain your boarding pass at which time HA would enter your QF bag tag into their system as QF & HA don't have an IATCI agreement.

As you would be clearing customs in HNL you would have to collect your bag anyway so having it tagged to OGG really achieves nothing.

As mentioned by The Insider, you will have to clear customs & immigration with your bag in HNL so once you're finished with these formalities you'll need to go and checkin with HA.
