Looking to go to DPS in June. QF award routing through SYD and QF269 to DPS which is a JQ flight.

Am I correct in reading that even when on QF flight number one doesn't get food on the flight and must bring or purchase? If on QF flight number can one pre-purchase through JQ?

Only other option I can think of is using CX via HKG but that's a long way to go out of the way with 3 kids.

Right now arefares are $1k and above - are there usually sales on JQ closer to June or is that high season?

Only other option is using *A award but haven't found any availability for 4/5 seats to DPS out of MEL.

Yep, no food or anything on QF award tickets with JQ.

Are you travelling in or out of the school holidays? Outside, June probably isn't too busy (they had a recent special for about $1300 return in StarClass which I think was for mid year). May be worth waiting a little longer.

Well we're travelling outside of vic state school holidays (week before)

Our party is 2 adults and 3 kids (5, 1.5, 1.5).

If we decided to only get 4 seats (2 adults and 2 kids) and have one of the 1.5yo as an infant, what:

  • does that mean if redeeming for a QF award on JQ flights?
  • does that mean if buying QF flights?
  • does that mean if buying JQ flight?
  • does that mean if buying VJ flights (via PER)?
Normally infants are 10% of adult fare - do each of the above airlines calculate it that way? Do they base it on full Y adult fare or lowest available at the time? I think QF don't charge for infants on awards?

I can only answer the redeeming awards on QF bit... it does not cost any points for an infant. There are some taxes involved, but they are very small amounts.

As for buying on QF, 10% sounds right. I remember flying with our little one from WLG to MEL and his ticket was only $21 including taxes. Ours was about $400 per person, so even the 10% may be too high.

When did this change happen?

There's nothing I could find on the QFF booking site and the reference I did find is in undated content under Qantas Industry Sales states the opposite: "Frequent Flyer redemption bookings are made on a Qantas codeshare fight number. All Qantas codeshare passengers in economy class will be offered complimentary "feed me" pack (meals and a beverage), blanket and headset for audio and in cabin movie." Note: The rest of the content seems a bit out of date, so maybe this is wrong too.

JetStar websites doesn't seem to have much to say about it either. (Can't post URL as a newbie.)

Can someone give me a reference to the policy of not feeding, quenching or blanketing QFF economy customers in JQ flights?

I just travelled Canberra - Sydney - Cairns in delightful Qantas economy. didn't even have to carry our bags in Cairns, so it seemed that we were on a winner. However, from Cairns to Narita on a codeshare with JQ, no meal, no drink, no blanket, no headphones, no warning. The cabin assistant insisted that it was clearly stated policy but he couldn't find the brochure that explained it. In the end he scrounged two meals for us but only after we had already purchased food and drink.

Returned by Starclass on QFF points, so I used the lounges and insisted on everything including a sponge bath. They don't even serve morning coffee on the Kansai to Gold Coast or Gold Coast to Sydney legs!

(So spoilt for nearly 10 years while JAL was serving Sydney-Kansai... after you ask for your third beer they give you a bottle of water as a chaser not an attitude.)
