Morning all.
Have to head to SIN late August and have a couple of options.
QF have two flights (morning and afternoon) both on A332's and then there is EK which leaves at 1800 on an A380.
Booking will be in Business -J and was just wondering peoples thoughts? Loadings look ok, and I was wondering what luck any of you have had with an upgrade to F on this route with EK
Cheers,

Dmac

I suppose it comes down to if you want to play the gamble and hope you get QF at its best or go the consistently indifferent EK route? I don't think I've read a flowing EK J TR in months, but I might be biased by the time a EK flight attendant swung her hard trunk into my leg in the lift at a crowded BNE hotel.

Having just done the same debate on a recent trip to Singapore from Melbourne, I think you should focus on what timing suits you best.

the QF and EK J hard products are quite similar, with both offering fully flat beds and a relative sense of privacy. However, EK has better on board amenities (bar up the back). As mentioned previously, EK service tends to be indifferent, but at least it is consistently so. QF ranges from the great to the absolute rubbish depending on who you get.

QF has arguably better food, but the quality of alcohol on EK is better (if that is your thing).

Lounge wise, on a J ticket on either airline allows you into both lounges. EK definitely trumps the Qantas International Pub in Melbourne, but the QF Lounge in Singapore (IMHO) is better than the EK one. So this may come down to what time your flight leaves and whether both lounges are open for you to access. If so, you can always jump around to suit your preferences.

either way, enjoy your trip!

Thanks for your input. I will most likely go the QF option to SIN and hope for a good crew and EK back into Melbourne.
The one toilet in J on the A332 is ridiculous IMO.

Hmmm late August.. A few more QF A332's will have the Marc Newson suite by then which I rate more highly than Emirates J. QF food better. EK A380 bit quieter.

It's a bit of a gamble with the QF refurb project not quite done!

i would take EK J in a heartbeat - the new QF 330 suite is highly overrated and the 330 itself a rubbish cabin in J.

consistently underwhelmed by QF J catering that seems to get worse with every trip.

as others have said, i find the QF service either rude or overly fawning, EK kind of sits in the mediocre middle!

the bar on the 380/bigger cabin and being able to walk about a little bit are worth it.

I know the discussion is business class but just as relevant in economy where A330 involved. I have just been planning November award in economy and have narrowed it down to EK 777 BNE-SIN or EK A380 MEL-SIN. Favouring the timing of the BNE-SIN flight as I could sleep on the plane and not need overnight hotel accommodation.

Really trying hard to avoid the QF A330.

Price and preferred departure time would be how I'd answer the OP's question. Don't see a huge difference in hard product. Chance of an upgrade would swing me mildly toward EK; but the morning QF flight with daytime service (so the crew should be expecting to be working) would be fine and give you time in the F lounge when the spa is open.

I wouldn't touch 777 Y with a barge pole.

I did J 330 QF to SIN, then J EK 380 SIN to LHR in April. Enjoyed both, actually find the refurb 330 a bit roomier. And I do a fair bit of domestic J 330 refurb so I get in them a fair bit.

Had no problems with service on either but must admit the EK 380 bar is a nice touch.

QF for me... Better seat, better food, more intimate cabin, better service. I don't use the bar on EK and the bottleneck with the toilets all outside the galley frustrates me every time!

If you are looking for the QF status credits, then the EK will need to be on the QF code, which will mean no upgrade chance using points :-(

in J I'd prefer the refurbed 330, I really like those seats compared to QF's 747 or A380 J seats.

IFE is better on EK too, way more choice for movies, at least in my recollection.
