Twice in the past month at LAX I have seen a Qantas A330-300 parked over near where the QF 744's are usually parked between mid morning and evening (South West of TBT/T4 terminals)

Having checked the usual equipment used from SYD, BNE, MEL & AKL I can't seem to work out where this equipment is coming from or going to (gut feeling says AKL due to range etc).

Anyone have any idea on this? Dates observed were the 1st of January and the 4th of January

The aircraft would of been a A330-200 and your gut instinct is correct, it does come from Auckland/Melbourne. Over the past few months it has been operating 3 services a week along side the 747-300 however now that the 743 have been retired it operates along side a 744 and eventually the route will return to a daily 744 service shortly
