Due to the QFF point earning strategies I have learnt on this site my wife and I are enjoying our first QFF F trip (QF29 overnight MEL-HKG). Are there any slight advantages or disadvantages to picking 2E/F, 3E/F or 4E/F?

I realise these are all great seats in the overall scheme of things but they are all available to book and I figured this was the place to ask about any minor pros and cons.

As a single pax in F on 747 I usually get 3A, the only exception being a couple of months ago when I got 1K. However, as a couple I would go for 2E/K. They would be great with the considerable space in front of those seats, and I have heard that row 4 does get a bit of noise from the galley but that would be minimal. The closet in front of the cabin get used rarely after take off, so that's not a problem. So, I say 2E/K

On a day flight we would probably choose 3,4EF again. But you are separated.Holding hands isn't easy.and 2 separate overheads.
So on our last night flight NRT-SYD we selected 1,2A and that was no problem especially when she wants something out of her bag in the overhead! And of course you do get the window for that short time it is light.

The Mrs & I like 4A & E. I know its across the isle but I like a window and space for my gear. We can still talk over the isle and sit together for meals with a fair amount of privacy. Plus we enjoy a bit of personal time with our own moves etc.

Personally, I would be going for 3EF or 4EF. My issue with 2Ef is that the aisle is at its narrowest at that point, and the passengers is 2A/2K need to be standing in 2E/F seat space to get to the overhead lockers.

Then again, there is no bad F seat!

This was my experience last time I was in 2A.

Travelling alone I would pick 1A/K or 3A/K.

With partner as per NM above.

unfortunately Qantas First class suffers from the same slow service you find in economy... (business and premium economy seem to have fairly quick service).

In First everything starts at the front of the cabin... taking drink orders, setting tables and so on.

If you want to be served quickly, then the closer to the front the better.

For the overnight QF29 where you would want to eat and then sleep, I'd take whatever you can closest to the front, so that would be 2EF.

As others have said, the aisle is narrowest at row 2 and then row 4. So another option could be 2A/E or F/K, but then you may be sitting next to someone in the other middle seat - and there are no privacy screens.

Just on a slight tangent, does anyone feel ripped off if they get F in the 744 instead of the 388?

I've sat in 1k before sold as a J seat and used a points upgrade into F on a 388 and it just doesn't compare...

I'm doing the reverse in a couple of weeks. Have done F on the 388 and have reserved 1K (sold as J) on the 744. I found F on the 388 to have a fair amount of through traffic. The seat and facilities were great. What's the minuses of the 744?

Thanks for the replies. It looks like 3E/F might be the go.

We do want to sit together and preferably not separated by an aisle. Usually we sit in AB in business because I like the window but as this is an overnight flight a window is not important.

I would very much like to experience F in the 380 but it wasn't an option on this trip.

Good call in that case. If solo I like 4a or K as I'm a messy bugger who likes lots of space.

What's the minuses of the 744?

Absolutely nothing! If the 747 is configured with 9 seats like Cathay pacific!!

Or at least with a decent herringbone First like BA.

QF F lacks any privacy. eats 2A/E are so close you might as well be on a 10 across 777 in coach.

And the cabins are old, falling apart etc etc etc.

14 seats in A zone is pretty much looking like business class standards these days, not F.
