I was at Adelaide airport early this morning to catch my flight home after a weekend away. As I walked to the gate I caught a glimpse of a QF 747 tail sitting on the tarmac (it was pitch black outside). It looked as though the plane landed and just stopped at the end of the runway. It sat there for at least half an hour before leaving, whilst grounded I could see ground staff around the aircraft in their vans. I over heard someone say the 747 originated in London and was headed for Melbourne but I didn't hear the rest of the coversation. Does anyone know what happened?

Potentially QF10? SIN-MEL.

Was due in MEL at 04:45 this morning, but went M.I.A and arrived at 11:22am.

Edit -- Yep it was:
QF10 Singapore Adelaide 20:10 (Sun) 06:12 Landed
QF10 Adelaide Melbourne 09:10 04:45 11:22 Landed

I heard on the news this morning that aircraft bound for Melbourne were diverted because of fog.

Ah thanks for that. It just looked weird sitting at the end of the runway facing the wrong way!

Same thing happened to me last June, flight from Singapore-Melbourne diverted to Adelaide
due to fog,we sat on the tarmac for 5 HOURS:shock: and was another 1hr clearing Customs,
then 2hrs wait for a flight to Melb S**T HAPPENS !!!!

M.P.

Yeah Fog,

But some QF 747's do do domestic flying, I know there is one that departs MEL around 10:00AM that goes to perth

We don't get Qantas 747's in Adelaide very often, hence the interest! The only regular 747 is the Singapore Airlines Mega Ark (freight).

Didn't think there were any regular 747's between MEL and PER anymore (since the 743's were retired)

SQ can up with rather a good name for there freighters. :)
See lots of there here in SIN at the moment, probably not to busy at the present time with freight a bit slow.

I'd heard that yes, there was a diversion from MEL due to fog but that also the jet turned off the runway to a..er...dead end  Being ADL, there was a slight delay waiting for someone to come to work, grab the tug and reverse a jet back to where it should be:oops:!
