Qf 73/74 - sfo

Is the equipment (eg mobile signage) used at SFO brand new, or did they pull the old stuff out of storage?

Everything is brand new.....

Including the staff.

I observed the check-in for QF74 and IMHO it went pretty darn well.

QF had extra staff on duty as well as management who were overseeing it.

Management commented that it was a little slow - but with training, the staff would be much better.

Personally - I thought they did a great job for first night.

Great Pictures ...... thanks for Sharing.
It's great to see the Red Roo back in " The city by the Bay" once again.

I was on the same inaug flight as dfcatch (A fine gentleman he is) and was able to attend the same shindig post the event with the Red Root (no, not the Social Media one :D ) and all. They had tim tams too and some speeches from the SF mayor's office ("December 18, 2015 is proclaimed to be QANTAS Day"), our brand new Counsel-General to SF, QF's NA sales manager and so on. Was fun.

The flight itself was pretty good though seemed a bit short (if that makes sense) in terms of getting enough sleep and stuff (first world problem right? :) ) but was good. They had planned an overfly of the Golden Gate in our 744 (VH-OEG) but the wind shifted and weather was dull (there's a shock for SF in winter!) and it didn't happen. Had a quick land and taxi on the 19's, a half hearted (drought?) water canon salute from the fireys and fairly quick entry through CBP despite new APC kiosks behaving wierdly.

QF got the 744 parked very openly in full view of the 101 - another great marketing win there and it was great to see that tail.

I returned to SFO on Sunday 20th. the QF check-in desks prior to 1945 (in alley 5) were used by Swiss (so still a red and white tail lol). I actually flew AA out so can't comment on the check in experience etc.

It was a lot of fun being on that SFO flight!

also QF has a nice video up on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rbwyyrFgh8

Haha yes - we all complained that the flight was too short.

Only 13 hours or thereabouts.

I still prefer UA for Y TPAC over QF 744.

But QF 380 Y would still be my preferred Y transportation.

Priority List:

1/ QF 380 F
2/ QF 380 J
3/ QF 744 J
4/ QF 380 PE (Exit row ONLY)
5/ UA 787 J
6/ UA 777 J
7/ QF 380 Y (Upstairs Cabin or 71D/80A/80K)
8/ UA 787 Y (Economy Plus aisle or bulkhead)
9/ QF 744 Y (Bulkhead or Exit Row)

Ignoring VA/DL

You have the AA option as well.
