Just wondering if anyone knows how likely it is that the QF 747's doing the SYD/FRA SYD/LAX trips are likely to be refitted with the A380 style J seats??
Thanks
R

QF is only refurbing 9 jets - 6 ERs and 3 newer 400s - according to the speech/ statement today this will be done by October
ERs appear to be mostly used in the DFW and SCL routes given range needs.

At present QF still has 20/21 747s so a lot that wont have the new seats (some of these still have old First)

I would say very doubtful on QF5/6 (if indeed that route survives) and a maybe on 107/8

The Qantas Source has a nice route tracker where you can see all the data for historic flight ops, as for Jan next year, I reckon it will still be a lottery, just with lower odds as the last of the three 744s are done, leaving 5 F cabins from memory.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I believe that the route itself is only 3 class (Y,Y+,J), however as Markis has alluded to, you may get a 747 with first class seating, but with business service.

Ok Thanks will just have to wait and see.
I will have a look at the Qantas source now though, sounds fascinating

Dont forget its thought that FRA will go soon as a QF destination, that will free up some 747 fleet as well, I dont expect the f cabin birds to be in the fleet for too much longer:

Thanks Markis its complicated! Just trying to decide which J seats to choose......

Addit If you are correct I have a JASA award to FRA which could be even more complicated as in "flight does not exist" UGH!

Bumping an old thread here but it looks like my two daughters will get to try out old F next week on QF107. The seat map has only 14 seats on a 747-400 and they are in 3 E/F. Neither of them have ever been there before so will make for a novelty start to the trip :)
Does the 4 class non-refurb operate this service regularly?

I don't believe so - Qantas seem to be trying to have a consistent product across the Pacific, so the Skybed MkII craft are generally employed.

Thats has not been the case the last couple of months for the 744 services both from SYD and BNE often having non refurb aircraft.

One of every three services this month has had a four class on QF107 while QF15 has been less effected but still seen it 4 times in terms of a four class and twice with OJA.

Overall this year this it does not seem to have been the case - November may be special ...

We're doing the LAX-JFK leg of QF107 in Dec and it's a refurbished bird......plenty of time for things to change I suppose. I wouldn't be upset to see a change for this short sector as we're already ensconced in the front cabin so not much of change....better ratio of seats/toilets aside.

Completely different view for our QF8 return trip in Jan......currently refurb and the 4 of us are sitting up stairs. If there is a late change we'd probably have a hard time getting relocated in the correct section.

I think you will find it ongoing for three reasons:

1. The refurbs are now approaching longer maintenace checks again after their honeymoon period given the refurb was done during similar checks.
2. Daily QF8 was not part of the original plan which is why 10 are now staying not 9.
3. OEB has finished her captains choice commitments and is now back in line flying (she will be the tenth).
