Hi we are doing this trip mid-nov with an almost 3 year old and almost 1 year old. Plan is for baby to be in carrier and toddler to be in light weight umbrella stroller to be retrieved AT GATE ON LANDING. Thing is, I need to know whether we will be allowed to gate check stroller for both flights. We will not make it with toddler if we can't do this as he will want to be carried and is too heavy to be carried as much as would be required without stroller. I've had horrid experiences with Jet Star/domestic flights/stroller had to be checked. Anyone know what I can expect for these November flights? Will be facing same scenario going home as well. Thanks

Hi would suggest you purchase a quicksmart stroller which folds and fits in its own bag it weighs 6kgs and fits in overhead bin so you can carry on. We have done 20 plus flights with one and its brillant.

Give Qantas a ring and ask. My experience with similar aged children has been that Qantas has allowed at gate check-in of strollers. The check-in agents have even insisted on taking the stroller to the gate. The light weight umbrella stroller will be fine... we travelled with a cheap $20 stroller from Target and it was fine. Once, Qantas even allowed us to check in at gate a humongous dual pram - it was called something limo... but then I now don't trust whether expensive prams will come out of the plane's belly in one piece, so cheap strollers preferred.

The problem you can have is that the stroller does not always appear at the other end at the gate. They mostly appear, but in some instances, they had to be picked up from the carousel or oversize baggage counters.

Thanks. Will ring. Would rather not buy yet another type of pram/stroller but then again we can't afford to be without when making our connection and generally moving through the airports. Humongous duo pram is staying home as we are renting one on the other side as we are too afraid of damage to our "limo". However umbrella stroller is pretty beat up and has a carry case which qantas ripped last time but paid for...rather deal with torn case than torn stroller.
