Qatar Strands Passengers in Auckland

I was checking the news earlier today and came across this article on Traveller:

Passengers on a Qatar Airways flight that was supposed to depart Auckland on Sunday evening are facing their third night in a hotel, with the airline offering "no information" as to what happened.

Seems very bizarre that an airline would leave passengers stranded for days on end in a destination without either rebooking them OAL, especially when said airline is part of an airline alliance that could easily get passengers to their destination.

Assuming that alliances are more than just a marketing exercise (and I’m not sure they are) , QF simply don’t have the seats … I looked at loads on their daily MEL and SYD flights (from AKL) and they’re basically full. For example tomorrow there is 1 A330 (QF), 1 787 (NZ) and 1 320 (JQ) to SYD and between them showing 15 unsold seats.

Yes. Read about this on FT. They have mostly boarded the Qatar flight to Adelaide which has just arrived here and we will join them to fly to Doha. There are only three flights a week and apparently the flight from Doha left too late to meet Adelaide’s curfew where it flies to after Auckland. .

The problem is international flights out of NZ are nearly all full at the moment. Airlines haven't been able to ramp up capacity fast enough when NZ government loosened border restrictions at short notice.

QF do not fly AKL-ADL non stop. Air NZ did (does?)
Some people on the AKL-ADL-DOH flight may not have full access to AU (passport, visa). Transit visa's, were required, is different to full entry tourist-business visa (e.g. AKL-SYD-ADL). Those doing that ADL transit are still required to do the AU DPD.

QF do not fly AKL-ADL non stop.

Nor do NZ at the moment ! Australia- NZ services still very limited.

But QF also flies AKL-MEL/SYD-ADL.and QR also flies MEL/SYD-DOH. The previous poster implied that QR could have leveraged their alliance partner., and sometimes during IRROPS airline lines work with whatever they can. I was merely pointing out that those flights seem to be running almost full anyway. So probably not really an option. (In addition to the visa issues your mention).

It seems to me the greatest issue here is the failure in communications.
