Qatar Privilege Club - best way to use Qmiles and cash for return business MEL-LHR?

Hi, I am a Silver member of the Qatar Privilege Club with 112,056 Qmiles (and 150 Qpoints). I am looking to fly business class from Melbourne to London Heathrow on 25 July 2014 (QR905 to Doha, then QR3 to London - current price $3261) and from London Heathrow to Melbourne (QR4 to Doha, then QR904 to Melbourne - current price $3614) on 22 August 2014 (with a few days flexibility at both ends).

What are my options using cash and/or Qmiles to get a return business class flight from Melbourne to London on a oneworld alliance airline?

If I want to use my Qmiles for a one-way upgrade from economy to business:
- Is there a way of checking whether an upgrade is available before I buy the economy ticket?
- Will I know if I have the upgrade straight away or is it like Qantas where you don't know until a few days before the flight?
- What are the chances of an upgrade using my Qmiles?

Hi I cannot answer any of your questions but I would suggest trying to get on QR7 from DOH-LHR instead of QR3 so you can try the excellent Dreamliner

You need to look. We on AFF have no more access than you do. Try the QF and CX(?) web sites. You need to register as a QF and CX. Or Expertflyer. Also look from SYD or ADL

If I want to use my Qmiles for a one-way upgrade from economy to business:

Will need to be a QR flight number & QR aircraft. No upgrades on QF, CX. MH etc
