Qatar is offering free flights to frontline Medical workers and a companion as a thank you in the Corvid 19 pandemic.
100,000 free tickets for use within their network are being given away in economy only for flights from 26th May till December 10th 2020.

T & Cs include
“This offer is strictly available to medical frontline professionals only. Eligible healthcare professions are limited to: Doctor, Medical Practitioner, Nurse, Paramedic, Lab Technician, Clinical Researcher”.....and presumably the ability of the passenger to convince the Australian government to allow them to leave the country and a willingness to quarantine for 14 days upon return.

link appears to go to Maldives homepage. I couldn’t fixit but just change to Australian page in top right hand corner

I have been trying to enter this when the limits reset (7; 01 AM AEST) but constant errors on the page render this completely useless. Eventually, around 7:22 am I eventually get the error that the country limit has been reached. This is essentially a pointless frustrating exercise it seems.

It may have been a moot point in any case if I did get the freebies: it seems outbound travel restrictions for Australian Citizens will last for the entirety of the year (with potential exceptions of NZ, Pacific Islands).

I forwarded the link to my colleague whose husband is a nurse but they were uncomfortable with submitting their personal details like date of birth and passport...

I have also tried at various times including 7:00 or 7:01am when they supposedly reset for the next day. I either get an error message or that the allocation has been reached.
Does anyone know if Qatar has actually allocated any tickets for Australia? Or are they merely looking at neighbouring countries?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They probably won't disclose which country gets how many. However, on QR's official Twitter, they posted that 40,000 tickets were already claimed as of a few days ago. So I don't know who is getting lucky enough to get these 🤷‍♂️

Tried again this morning. Two different messages. First it was the one about high traffic or something along those lines, then country allocation exhausted. This was from 7:00 to 7:07.
Congratulations to those who have been successful.

My partner is eligible and we tried every day at 7am after reading they are issued on a first-come-first-served basis. We saw similar messages appear each time - either "unsuccessful" or "too many requests at the moment" or "daily allocation is full".

This morning however, we with there with multiple tabs locked and loaded. Submitting a new form every few seconds starting just prior to 7am. We managed to get ONE message saying that our details have been received and that allocations will occur over the next 48 hours. Subsequent submits said that our details have already been received.

I should have copied the exact message but it was sufficiently vague to not state that were successful and that allocations were yet to occur. We will keep an eye on our emails and report back. 🤞

Sadly 48 hours later and no email. We registered successfully but the Australian allotment must have been just too small for us a get on the list.

Nothing lost so we don't mind. Generous campaign and no doubt some good PR for QR.

Ignore my last. Took 4 days but we did actually receive a promo code 😁. Just have no idea where/when we will be able to use it.

Has anyone flown QR from Melbourne to NZ before? If that's the only international destination available - it will be an interesting route.

I'd check their website. They used to fly to Europe & LHR via Doha. My nephew flew with them from Budapest to Sydney & back in Dec/Jan & said it was good.
Good luck and enjoy.

Yes I saw that. So long as u don’t want to try and get a return flight for a while !

Sigh this promo is a bit of a disaster.

I was so excited to have won, far and away the best prize I've ever won.
However there are no flights out of Australia, and they have no plans to extend ticket validity beyond march 2021 which is looking unlikely to be honest. So do we just burn the freebie? If booking and then cancelling because we can't leave Australia without an exemption, Qatar have said "unused refundable airport taxes will be refunded", whatever that means.

Hang in there. Too early to burn the ticket.
Have a plan on where you would go, then have an alternative destination. Maybe even a plan C.
As a last resort, you could give it to a friend or family member who lives overseas? Assuming they can use it.

unfortunately I have to be travelling with them and they check medic ID apparently.
my main hope will be that they allow changes to beyond the end of March as they ran a similar promo for teachers that allowed bookings until September

My partner was also scored a promo code for the health care worker promotion. @jgreenspoon, did you recieve any corrospondence saying they have extended the validity to March 2021. I don't believe we recived anything and the original email says the promo code is valid until 28 Nov 20

Yes I believe it is now on that website as travel to be extended until the end of March. However the promo code still needs to be used by the end of November hence my urgency to book something this week even though travel seems extremely unlikely

they also have communicated this March extension by email and Facebook Messenger
